The London School of Economics and Political Science – one of the world’s top universities, is a public research university specialised in social sciences located in London, United Kingdom, and a constituent college of the federal University of London.

Banda was invited to deliver the lecture at the university’s Institute of Public Affairs in Old Theatre, Old Building.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Public Affairs at LSE, Dr Purna Sen, told Nyasa Times that Banda will “reflect on her journey to the highest level of public life.”

Sen, who will be the discussant at the public lecture said: “This event launches a new Institute of Public Affairs project exploring the roads taken by women who shape public life.”

Banda was the first female President of Malawi (2012 – 2014) and only the second woman to lead a country in Africa.

Her press officer Tusekele Mwanyongo told Nyasa Times that Banda is “delighted to have this opportunity to share her experience of public life.”

LSE said the event is free and open to all with no ticket or pre-registration required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis.

The university academics act as advisers to governments serve on commissions and are seconded to national and international organisations. LSE regularly attracts leading public figures to give lectures, attend seminars and consult staff.
