Judge Kenyatta reserves ruling on Bushiri’s stop-arrest case

The High Court in Lilongwe has  reserved a ruling on application by prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary to stop the Malawi police from arresting them.

Bushiri at the court

This was an Interpartes injunction application.

Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda did not provide a specific  date on when the ruling will be made, according to one of the lawyers for Bushiri, Wapona Kita who attended the hearing in chamber.

Many people, mostly members of his Enlightened Christian Gathering  (ECG) church, thronged the court premises chanting songs in support of their spiritual leader  they fondly call ‘Papa’.

Prophet Bushiri thanked all those who came to the court to give him moral support.

The famous preacher and his wife have maintained that they returned home in Malawi because their safety in South Africa was compromised  and feared that they could not get a fair trial on charges – most of them trumped up.

South Africa prosecutors want Bushiri extradited to face  trial in Pretoria.

Bushiri is a criminal!!! For people who praise him papa papa can not see that and they will argue with me.all the donations he have been splashing in malawi are stolen money….. look i don’t hate bushiri and i have no personal issue with him.. if you think Bushiri is innocent then u have dead brain. He is fake and everything he has is stolen…..you can not cover that . We don’t support criminals!!! I know lot of people that bushiri scam them ,others direct and others indirect using his churches. I find your question seriously foolish and childish. If somebody breaks into your house and steals your TV, I suppose that person is not a thief to the rest of your neighbours, because he has not stolen from them?

Why would we be jealous of a charlatan? There are many foreign nationals living in South Africa with far more assets than Bushiri and don’t have any issues with the law before typing engage your grey matter and not rely on brown envelop journalists.

Your opening line shows how misinformed you are. If the case is being failed big time why is Bushiri busy with his PR exercise, why can’t he leave Malawi etc?

PR because he can afford it and he is using his own money. Has any of his guards or cleaners ever asked you for money? Or you ask them to give you a lift to town? You are too jealousy that’s why you will never have children!

I’m a South African and stay in a security estate close to the one where he had a house in South Africa. Now go figure. Why would I ask his goons for a lift when I have my own cars?

I don’t ask for money, I work for my own money you fool. Him engaging in PR shows how desperate he is and is doing himself a huge disservice. Learn how the world works in matters like this before moving those fingers and spew bile.

Unfortunately only a competent court of law can determine that a person is guilty or not of any charges brought against him or her. Therefore it is in Mr Bushiri’s best interest to get a good team of legal experts to represent him in the SA court. If he is found to be innocent, then he can sue the SA government for wrongful arrest, defamation of character and a whole lot of other things and make millions of Rands in reparations!!!

You couldn’t have put it any better. It is amazing that people have bought these fugitives story hook line and sinker.

I see people rejoicing saying he is back at home he will be protected and I’m like do people even take time to understand what a red alert implies?

Here is an example, his daughter was ill and both parents couldn’t accompany their child to seek medical attention, if you have children that is heart breaking. I doubt that they are enjoying what’s happening in their lives.

This criminal should not be given space to maneuvre. He must face justice for all ciminal activities that he did while in South Africa. The so call prophets are misleading people in many ways. One is already against vaccination and that is Kambale. There are some who tell their followers to stop medication for chronic ailments. They take advantage of the poor and the desparate.

Why is it such a hard decision if Police need to arrest someone and have evidence of wrong doing it is foolish of the court to grant prior interparte (one sided evidence) injunctions restricting Police. It is the Courts job to evaluate the evidence presented by the Police and Prosecutors Office not to restrict the role of Police and their duties. False imprisonment the accused can sue the Police. Judge is playing with Fire by setting such a precedent.
