The burial will follow a church service at Nthulu, Chimbiya in Dedza on Friday, according to the official programme.

The body of Mamarita Ruth Tembo, who passed on in the late hours of January 5 at Dae Yung Luke Hospital in Lilongwe where she was rushed after a sudden illness, will be taken to Tambo’s residence in Area 10 Lilongwe on Thursday.

It is expected to arrive at 4pm where Lingadzi CCAP will lead prayers and there will be a night vigil.

On Friday mourners will view the body from 11am and then there will be a church service at Lingadzi CCAP in Area 12 at 14.30.

After church service, the body will be taken to Dedza.

Malawians have unanimously paid tribute to Mrs Tembo as a woman who demonstrated that she was well-mannered, courteous and gracious unlike some wives of top notch politicians.

She also welcomed all visitors to the Tembo home with a smile.

MCP president Lazarus Chakwera said Mrs Tembo was “a woman of great outstanding virtue” not only to JZU, but to all in MCP and the entire Malawi nation.

Mrs Tembo, originally from Lesotho, is survived by a husband and four children

Meanwhile, the burial of MCP veteran politician Bazaar Nyirenda is slated for Thursday at Bwengu, Mzimba North.

Nyirenda died peacefully at age 90 on Wednesday morning.

On the same note, why the burial at Chimbiya kwa alamwake (at Kadzamira) when Tembo is settled at Dedza boma or say at Kaphuka, Linthipe 1? Thats where the Tembos come from not at Chimbiya.

  11. This is indeed a true model to all wives of political leaders. . She has never showered any insults to anybody in this country as OPPOSED TO SHANIL MULUZI, CASLISTER MUTHARIKA AND THE LATEST GERTRUDE MUTHARIKA. These are bad examples of wives of political leaders in the country. Look, they started fake charity organizations that died as their husbands left offices. These should learn from the late Mrs Tembo.

  12. Saw her only once when she came attend to funeral ceremony of their family long time driver’s wife in Kawale. The lady was so humble and you know good. RIP, mama. Its a life well lived.
