Kabwila accuses DPP of sidelining MCP councillors
The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has said the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is sidelining its counsellors in meetings of development programs.
MCP spokesperson Dr Jessie Kabwira made the remarks in Lilongwe on Monday during a news conference.
“It so sad that since the elections, only DPP and United Democratic Front (UDF) councillors are the one being invited to developmental meetings at district and city councils.
“The tendency of politicizing developments has been a stumbling block to the country’s economic growth and we believe it’s high time we put politics aside and move forward.
“This country is for all of us regardless of where we come from and our political affiliations. The leadership should not be on the forefront bringing in divisions,” she said.
MCP through her spokeswoman has been critical to the DPP administration and labelled President Peter Mutharika government as incompetent.
“Stop calling this government as a caring government”, Kabwila in on record saying.
Kabwira said the DPP-led government is behaving as if they are not ready to government.

For my own understanding MCP has more councillors in the central region. Is Jessie trying to tell us that these development meetings are happening in the southern region only. Has she consulted the District Commissioners of the central region to find out why they are not having meetings. I thought MPs are supposed to work together with the councillors as well is that happening Jessie.

Does Jessie Kabwila speak on behalf of the party or just her own mind? If this woman’s outbursts are representing the party’s position then I must say the MCP leadership is a complete disgrace, headless and a bunch of lost creatures.
How do you expect the DPP to work with MCP councillors when the same MCP leadership is day in, day out preaching its gospel of not recognizing the DPP government and President MUtharika? In fact the best and most sensible think I have been looking forward to is for the MCP to declare that its parliamentarians will not be attending parliament sessions because it (MCP) remains convinced that the DPP government is illegitimate.
Is Jessie not one of the beneficiaries of the recent Parliamentary Cash-gate in which MPs have pocketed K24m each as loans out of which they will only repay 50%?. Reading through the comments it is clear many people think they first belong to political parties in malawi and then Malawi, not vice versa. That is exactly why we have a lot of mediocre minds in the country, thinking their enemy is another person in other political party and not poverty affecting the whole country. They are willing to suppress constructive criticism and ideas for political gains. For every Malawian who is working hard thinking and doing what ever necessary to develop this country there are more than 100 of these no brain people negating the progress made. DPP and UDF are in coalition therefore they discuss issues that will promote their political agendas in as far as development is concerned. If MCP do not recognize the DPP led government, how do you expect the MCP counselors to be part of the government development meetings?
