Kaliati prides herself as ‘woman of substance’:  Says Speaker can’t ‘play’ with her

Malawi’s Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Mrs Patricia Kaliati has made a stunning claim that Speaker of Parliament, Richard Msowoya, threw her out of parliament because he does not have her as an easy prey like other women in parliament.

Kaliati said in an interview with Nyasa Times that the Speaker is tough on her because she has not been entertaining him, implying Msowoya has been making advances on her but to no success.

”When he plays around with other men’s women he thinks he can play with me. I’m someone he cannot  play around with , maybe when he play around with other women in parliament and he thinks he can also play around with me.

“I’m a woman of substance go and tell him to continue fearing me,”Kaliati said.

Kaliati claimed Msowoya is the one organising opposition MPs as vice president of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to be hostile to government.

“He is playing premature politics,” said Kaliati.

“ He will regret, Tell him Shauli yake.”

Msowoya evoked standing order 103 to Kaliati after she over head shouting insults when he was consulting with one of the house clerk on issues to do with procedures.

This didn’t go well with Kaliati who continued shouting at the clerk Jeffrey Mwenyeheri and the speaker before she was given marching orders 103 amid hand clapping and ululations from opposition benches.

  27. Every constituency derserves its MP! People of Mulanje deserve Kaliati and that is ok, they made their choice not only once but ever since the advent of Multiparty democracy.
    However as Malawians we do not deserve Mrs Kaliati to be our minister, she does not qualify if her outbursts are anything to go by. A minister is supposed to be able to handle herself better, I think Kaliati can make a better regional chairperson and not a minister.
