Controversial Mulanje South MP cum comedian Bon Kalindo has described as a disgrace demands by his fellow legislators who are demanding K3 million loan for each parliamentarian.
“My friend, these MPs have no heart at all. Just go in villages and see how people are suffering, one would not force the government to release the money when poverty of their own people has reached unprecedented levels,” said Kalindo popularly known by his stand up comedy stage name, Winiko.
He said it was unfortunate and dishonourable that some legislators were opportunist and put their personal interests first.
“As members of parliament we should put the interests of our people first, these are the one who voted us into parliament, we should not be selfish. Let us put the national interests first before our personal interests,” said Kalindo who calls it a spade a spade.
Kalindo, who is also deputy publicity secretray in ruling Democratic Progressive Party, is the first member of parliament to come out and condemn the demands by his fellow MPs.
The legislators are also demanding a hike in their daily allowance from the current K50000 to K80000, way up what primary school teachers, nurses and agriculture extension workers get in a month.
Kalindo said making such demands is irresponsible.
The MPs already received K24 million as motor vehicle loans and they get K1.5 million monthly basic pay which include monthly money for 500 litres of fuel and get K400 for vehicle t and t.
