Kambale, Carol Banda shine in Airtel fixed broadband golf tourney
Gabriel Kambale and Carol Mbalanje Banda are the champions of the 2016 Mbawa Airtel Fixed Broadband golf tournament.
Kambale amassed 42 points to claim the men’s category while Banda collected 36 points in total to win the ladies category.
Speaking after receiving her prize, Banda who also won the inaugural Mbawa golf tournament sponsored by Airtel last year said she felt she has reached the peak of her golf career.
“Let me start by saying am tired of similar statements every weekend. I believe this is the best moment of my life because winning competitions back to back like this is a clear indicator of what I have been longing for in this sport.
“However, I owe this to my husband who encourage me whenever am playing and energy levels are still high in me to win more,” said Banda who seems to have dominated ladies golf of late.
For his part, Kambale attributed his success to his playing partners. He also commended Mbawa golf club committee for keeping the greens in good shape.
“I had a wonderful team that propelled me to win this competition. I had a lot of fun on the golf course as well because the greens were perfect. I dedicate the prize to the two factors and hope to defend it next year,” said the veteran golfer.
In his remarks, Managing Director for Airtel Malawi Charles Kamoto said the tournament created a platform for interaction and networking for both long and short term benefits to the Airtel brand and the golfers.
“Apart from hosting these golf tourneys, we appreciate the imparted golf skills, knowledge and feedback that we get from interacting with you through this sport and we do not take it for granted. The more happy faces we see, the more we are motivated to continue to innovate and delight our customers,” said Kamoto.
During the competition which attracted over 100 golfers, veteran lawyer John Gift Mwakhwawa amassed 39 points while Angel Ali got 38 points to claim the second and third position respectively in the men’s category. Another veteran lady golfer Wilma Chalulu finished with 35 points to claim second spot in the ladies category.
In subsidiary prizes, Beatrice Mangwana went away with the longest drive prize for ladies while Carol Banda claimed nearest to the pin prize. Alkbour Bhana got the longest drive prize accolade in the men’s category while Danie Vosloo claimed nearest to the pin prize.
