Kamlepo dumps PP, blasts it as family party ‘full of tribalism’

Firebrand Rumphi East legislator Kamlepo Kalua has  resigned as deputy leader of People’s Party (PP) in parliament and withdrawn his  membership from the party with immediate effect, accusing it of being a party run by a family “full of tribalism”.

Tshwee-mwana-Tshwee: Kamlepo Kalua quits PP

PP is led by former president Joyce Banda whose son Roy Kachale is the vice president (eastern region.)

Kalua said PP is a family run party and claimed they don’t wnat people from other tribes to associate with it.

“PP is full of tribalism,” said Kalua.

“The president [Joyce Banda] has the final say and she takes it as a survival kit,” he claimed.

Kalua , who was led Malawi Democratic Party (MDP), and is one of the people who championed multi party democracy, said PP has lost direction.

He has since asked Speaker of Parliament to allocate him a seat as an independent legislator.

PP spokesman Ackson Kalaile Banda said Kalua has resigned because  he is “frustrated” after he has been left out to represent the party in the Public  Accounts Committee in Parliament.

  1. Bounty Hunter this fellow, just waiting which way the wind is going to blow because he knows PP is in tatters, just like UDF.

  2. Kamlepo uli muburu. Burutu lawaka ntcheni. Nadi achievement yako ibe ufwiti na masalamusi. Chiuta wakulange nyanga zako zifwifwe. Bakanandiri bako balenge nthimphwa. Wapula mwelero fwiti ya munthu iwe

  3. Stupid selfish fool. This is no time for such nonsense. There is a bigger battle afoot. Nobody has time for your shenanigans. Why don’t you go and kidnap yourself again.

  4. When did the self abductor realise this?? You did not have balls to stand as an independent.

  5. Kamlepo has just pointed or said the obvious. Everybody knows that the Parties in Malawi are family entities except maybe two but that is a known fact & nobody can argue that. He is free to be an independent that Section 65 is toothless so he ais a free man.

  6. Do the laws permit a person who stood on a party ticket and won, allow that same person to dump the party and declare himself an independent? I hope he should completely resign his parliamentary position and allow the electoral commission to conduct new elections in his constituency. The electorate in his constituency will then give him a red card.

    1. The law allows him to be independent, but he cannot join another party represented in Parliament. It must be mentioned here that no member of Parliament has lost a seat because of Section 65. This is so because there is no independent organ to police it. Hence rendering Section 65 ineffective.
