Midfielder Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo and goalkeeper Swadick Sanudi finally joined the local players in camp as Malawi prepares for the 2012 African Cup of Nations crucial qualifier against Tunisia on 3 September.

The two players arrived in the country over the weekend to join their colleagues as per coach Kinnah Phiri’s request for them to return home early from South Africa.

Kinnah wanted the duo to join the domestic players to  keep fit since they have been out of action for a long time after being released by their South African clubs.

Kamwendo and Swadick trained with the rest of the squad on Monday as witnessed by Nyasa Times.

“They are all here and it’s good for them to catch up. It’s important that they concentrate and focus on training as they look for opportunities elsewhere,”a member of the technical panel told Nyasa Times after the first morning training session for the week.

He also disclosed the start of the preparations as promising with all the local players giving their all as the battle for places will get fierce next week with the arrival of the professionals.

Fischer ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe who has been recalled to the side and started training last week picked up a knock but is back training which should be good news to coach Kinnah Phiri who wants all the players fit for this defining encounter at home.

The rest of the professional players are expected to jet in later this week with others arriving on Monday.
