Kananji linked with Civo coaching job: Malawi football

After steering Blantyre United FC to the third position in the just ended TNM Super League season, Blantyre United coach is set to part ways with ‘Mphembedzu ‘and join government sponsored Civo United, Nyasa Times can reveal.

According to highly placed sources within Civo, Kananji has already agreed to contractual terms and conditions set by the government side, which include a job in the civil service.

“I can assure you that Kananji is coming to the capital city but the club through its spokesperson will make an official statement at an appropriate time,” said an executive member who opted for anonymity.

The source further revealed that Kananji will not come alone as a number of players from Blantyre United including goal poacher Sparrow Msowoya have decided to follow him.

Efforts to talk to Kananji proved futile but the coach was spotted at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe last Friday, when TNM presented prizes to deserving candidates in the just ended TNM
Super League.

Last season Civo fired veteran coach Alex Masanjala and replaced him with former Silver Strikers coach Thom Nkorongo on an interim basis.

Nkorongo managed to steer the side to the sixth position in the 2012/23 TNM Super League season but the executive is yet to decide his fate.
