Kanyenda offered 1 year contract extension at Polokwane
Malawi veteran international striker Esau Kanyenda has been offered a one year contract extension by his South African club Polokwane City.
The 34 year old Kanyenda has since been given a two week ultimatum to make up his mind on whether he will remain at the club or leave.
Kanyenda’s contract expires at the end of the current Absa Premiership Soccer League (PSL) season.
The player who admitted that his playing days are coming to an end is likely to extend his stay at City following a confessing he made late last year that he could not resist the temptation of playing for one more season if given a chance before hanging up his boots.
“I still feel I can play for another year, I have a contract with Polokwane up to the end of the season and the continuation of my stay here will depend on the club boss,” Kanyenda told one of South Africa’s leading soccer magazine Kick Off in December, 2015.
He revealed that if his contract is not extended at City or else signed by any other club in the rainbow nation, he will return home and join the champions Nyasa Big Bullets.
At the peak of his career, Kanyenda then famously called ‘Black Mamba’ played for big Russian Clubs including Locomotive Moscow, Rostov and Kamaz F.C.
Apart from Russia he also played in Denmark.
He was also part of the historic Flames squad that qualified for the 2010 African Cup of Nations finals in Angola.
He remains the only Malawian to have played in the top world soccer competition UEFA champions league while playing for Moscow.
