Kanyenda,Chiukepo earn Malawi recall: Kinnah names 34-man squad

Veteran striker Esau Kanyenda has been recalled to the Malawi squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations last round return leg against Ghana at Civo Stadium in the capital Lilongwe on October 13.

The forward did not play for his country in the first leg but he has been named in Kinnah Phiri’s 34-man squad that will go for training camp at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre from Sunday September 23.

Chiukepo Msowoya – who was recently offloaded by South African club Orlando Pirates – has also made the squad.

Kanyenda: Recalled

Malawi has also called teenage sensation Gabadini Mhango. The 18-year-old forward, who is man of the moment in Malawi, earned his first cap in Malawi’s 2-1 friendly win at home to Zambia in July.  He was in the team that travelled to Accra but was introduced late in the game.

Other foreign legion players, who have made it into the squad, are Black Leopards sweeper Harry Nyirenda, Peter Wadabwa, Robin Ngalande, Robert ‘Baggio’ Ng’ambi, Atusaye Nyondo and Simplex Nthara.

Missing on the professional players are Angolan based James ‘Shareholder’ Sangala and Limbikani Mzava, who are on suspensions after accumulating cards.

Amongst the local players in the squad are; Green Harawa, Ishmael Thindwa and Rodrick Gonani.

The midfielders are Mighty Wanderers skilful midfielder Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo, Dave ‘Abambo’ Banda, Chimango Kayira, Ndaziona Chatsalira, Peter ‘Pido’ Pindani, Patrick Gunde, Patrick Masanjala, Frank Banda, Mc Nius Mhone and Douglas Chirambo.

In defence, Foster ‘Zagaf’ Namwera is back after missing the first encounter due to yellow cards. Other players in defence are Bongani Kaipa, Steven Chagoma, Moses ‘Luba’ Chavula, Pilirani Makupe, John Lanjesi, George Nyirenda and lion heartened Francis Mlimbika.

In goals, Owen Chaima, Charles Swini and Richard Chipuwa have made it.

Malawi has a huge task to score three unanswered goals to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations finals having lost the first leg 2-0 in Accra.
