Judge Micheal Mtamba makes legal history in Malawi, ruling that the judgement in the case in which former Minister of Justice Ralph Kasambara SC and McDonald Kumwembe who are being co accused of conspiring to murder former Malawi budget director Paul Mphwiyo, will be televised live on Times TV.
The judge set July 21 for his determination.
Times TV applied to court for broadcasting rights of the judgement day.
And in his ruling on Tuesday, Mtambo said Times can go ahead to broadcast the judgement.
Howevere, he gave the restrictions that Times TV should cover live in court when the judge enters the courtroom until when he will finish reading his judgement.
Former justice minister Kasambara, businessperson Pika Manondo and former Malawi Defence Force soldier Macdonald Kumwembe will be in the dock waiting for their fate.
Kasambara was found with a case to answer, while Manondo and Kumwembe were found with conspiracy to commit murder.
Speaking to Nyasa Times, lawyer for Times TV, nnocent Kalua hailed the court;s decision as “groundbreaking” for the media giant in Malawi, the Times Group.
The judge has ” ruled that Times TV can beam live the judgement and Malawians will watch the judge delivering the ruling,” said Kalua.
