Kasambara’s accomplice arrested at Chileka over passport
One of the accomplices of lawyer Ralph Kasambara, Ali Kaka, was on Wednesday arrested at Chileka International Airport for allegedly using his father’s passport.
Police and Immigration officials confirmed the arrest of Kaka and said he was being probed why he used his father’s passport to leave the country.
Kaka was arrested alongside Kasambara, Arthur Chikankheni, Mayamiko Kadango, Brian Magoya and Patrick Gadama and spent two days in police and prison custody.
They were charged with assault occasioning bodily harm on a trio who reportedly attempted to assassinate Kasambara and petrol bomb hisoffices and residence in Blantyre in February this year.
“Yes, Ali Kaka has been arrested at Chileka Airport for using his father’s passport. He will be interrogated and charged. It appears he was fleeing from the country,” said an immigration officer.
A Blantyre police officer also confirmed the arrest of Kaka. The officer said Kaka was yet to be charged.
Kaka was represented at police by lawyer Lusungu Gondwe.
He said their bail conditions do not stop one going out of country and that they did not surrender their passports.
Gondwe said when getting dollars at the bank, his cousin took his father’s passport when Kaka was out of town.
“When he returned, he was given forex plus the passport. He did not check it and proceeded to airport,” he said.
Gondwe said police did not refuse bail as they understood that it was an innocent mistake.
