KFC opens food outlet in Malawi’s commercial capital

Malawians on Sunday welcomed delicacies from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), one of the most popular chicken restaurants globally, as the chain Opened a restaurant in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre.

KFC is a US-based company with a global footprint.

Afribrands Limited and Yum Africa have the  franchise licence to run the business in Malawi.

“I know KFC is a high standard and quality venture,”  said Industry and Trade Minister John Bande when he officially opened KFC.

Bande said there is an appetite for a brand like KFC in Malawi where  fast food culture is growing.

However the minister cautioned that he  would not want to see KFC standards compromised.

Bande also hoped the company will create jobs, source its products such as potatoes, chickens and tomatoes from local producers so as to help accelerate economic growth.
