Kinnah hails Flames performance

Flames coach, Kinnah Phiri has heaped praise to his team’s spirited performance, in their first match in CECAFA tournament in Tanzania.

Malawi started their campaign for this year’s tournament through a 2-0 victory over Kenya.

Kinnah, who did not have enough preparation time for the tournament, following late confirmation about Malawi’s participation by CECAFA, speaking in a post match interview to SuperSport said that he was thrilled with the performance that was put up by his boys.

“Let me praise the young boys for putting up the good fight because this is the new team and these are period of time and perform like this it encourages me even more,” said Kinnah.

“Our opponents played well, they have got good players, but we were more tactical in this game and we took our chances well and we could have scored three goals, but let me give credit (well deserved ) to my boys for the fantastic game,”said the Malawian mentor.

The coach added that this competition will give him a chance to identify youngsters who could be part of the African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers next year.

“With this type of game by the boys, it will give me a chance to see which players are good enough for the African cup of nations and world cup; we are urging the fans that they should keep on coming. Their support is vital and will try our best to keep up a good fight,”xplained the coach.

Malawi will take on Sudan on Wednesday 30 November, before wrapping up the group stages with a game against Ethiopia on Friday 2 December.
