Kinnahs saves Free State Stars from relegation
Former Malawi national football team coach Kinnah Phiri rescued Free State Stars from relegation virtually on the last day of South Africa top league PSL with a 3-0 drubbing of Moroka Swallows on Saturday in Soweto.
The Kinnah boys achieved the feat with a favour from Supersport United who beat Essau Kanyenda’s team Polokwane City 4-2.
The Stars have escaped relegation after finishing on 14th position on the table with 29 points, two behind Patrick Mabedi’s team Swallows and just one point above Polokwane who were condemned to the relegation playoffs against National First Division teams.

In a related development Platinum Stars midfielder Robert Ng’ambi marked the end of the season in style by scoring in his team’s 3-0 victory over former Flames star striker Russel Mwafulirwa’s team.
The goal took his tally to 9 goals beating compatriot Gabadinho Mhango who has finished with eight goals. Ng’ambi’s tally was one shy of this season’s PSL top goal scorer Bernard Parker. Sundowns won the title with 65 points from 30 games with last year’s champions Kaizer Chiefs finishing second with 63 points, Wits University of Malawi’s Robin Ngalande came third with 56 points, Orlando Pirates fourth with 46 points, Supersport fifth with 44 points, Bloemfontein Celtic of Malawian stars Gabadinho Mhango and Limbakani Mzava are on sixth with 43 points.
Mpulanga Black Aces have finished on seventh with 43 points because of an inferior goal aggregate while Ng’ambi’s Platinum Stars ensured a top eight finish with the 3-0 victory.
