Kukoma maintain perfect weekend with victory over Tigresses in FDH Premier Netball League

Kukoma Diamonds continued their impressive form in the FDH Premier Netball League with a 61-49 victory over fellow heavyweights Tigresses in a Week Five first-round clash at Blantyre Sports Arena on Sunday.

It was a second win of the weekend for Kukoma Diamonds, who had earlier beaten FLC Netball Team 57-25 on Saturday, strengthening their position as the first round of the season progresses.

Head coach Noel Musa praised his side’s performance against a strong Tigresses outfit, insisting the victory was fully deserved.

“It was a very good game considering that both teams are big. We deserved the win because of the way we played,” he said.

Musa said the squad would keep working hard in training as they look to build on their current momentum and push further up the table.

“We will continue encouraging and training our players so that they can perform at their best and help us move further towards the top position,” he added.

For Tigresses, head coach Peace Kalua struck a positive tone despite the defeat, pointing to clear signs of progress in her side’s performance since the start of the campaign.

“I am inspired by the improvement we have made compared to our initial performance. We have improved by about 40 percent and we are striving to reach at least 60 percent in the coming games,” she said.

However, Kalua admitted that a lack of squad depth had proved costly during Sunday’s contest.

“We do not have enough players and substitutes, so when a player gets tired or injured, it becomes difficult to make changes. This affects our performance,” she explained.

Tigresses had gone into the fixture full of confidence, having beaten Prison Queens 63-44 the day before.

Elsewhere at Blantyre Sports Arena on Sunday, Pacers edged past FLC Netball Team 42-40, while Prison Queens bounced back from their earlier defeat to beat Giants NC 48-43.
