Kunkuyu takes oath, President Banda says ‘don’t worship me’

Malawi President Joyce Banda has called on the newly sworn in Minister of Information and Civic Education, Moses Kunkuyu, to respect Malawians and say the truth at all times than worship her – the way former ruling DPP hand clappers  was doing to late president Bingu wa Mutharika.

President Banda was speaking at Capital Hill in Lilongwe during the swearing in ceremony of Kunkuyu as the new Information Minister and government spokesman.

Banda said she wants the ministry to be the mouthpiece of  government that will strive to give dignity to the office. The Malawi leader said the Minister and the ministry should build a good image of Her Excellency’s administration.

The President said she expects a lot from the Blantyre South West Parliamentarian and his ministry.

“I expect you as government mouthpiece to say nothing but the truth at all times. I don’t want you to take Malawians for granted as they are the most important people,” said President Banda.

Her Excellency said she values people who give good and true advice.

“I don’t want you to lie to me by praising me, I want and expect you to give me good and true advice at all times,” Said the Malawi leader adding that Joyce Banda does not matter but the people of Malawi.

The President further advised the minister to seek wisdom from God to guide him and then told Kunkuyu to read Joshua 1 vs1 in the Holy Bible.

Delighted

In an interview with Nyasa Times, Kunkuyu said he will always strive to give true advice to the President.

“I am honoured to be the minister of Information, I will be fully committed to this job and will advise the President accordingly,” explained the youthful minister.

He has taken over from outspoken Patricia ‘Akweni’ Kaliati who was first to get the boot from the late Mutharika’s administration.

Kunkuyu was the leader of a pressure group Hope Alliance that advocated for change in the Democratic Progressive Party(DPP).
