Kutsaira, several MCP members defect to PP

Nomadic politician and former Malawi’s head of government intelligence, Binton Kutsaira has for the second time ditched the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to join the ruling People’s Party (PP).

Kutsaira, a former Secretary General for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), was formally welcomed into the party during a political rally conducted by President Joyce Banda at Masintha Ground in the capital, Lilongwe Sunday afternoon.

Besides the unsettled Kutsaira, several other members of MCP including Beston Majoni also announced their defection from their party to join the ruling party.

He resigned from the DPP where he also served as deputy minister during its regime and went back to MCP in June last year.

In MCP he tumbled in the primary elections for parliamentary candidate for Lilongwe Msinja North.

President Banda appointed Kutsaira as Presidential Advisor on Agriculture before he was fired after he contested in the DPP national convention which was contrary to civil service requirements.
