Kwezy Bus owner accepts falsifying bus documents pays K31.2 mil taxes to Malawi Revenue Authority
The owner of Kwezy Buses fleet that was seized few days ago, Benson Vitsitsi has paid over K30 million in taxes after accepting the crime of using false documents to clear the new launched buses.
The buses were seen over the week-end doing business on Malawi roads.
A follow-up with Malawi Revenue Authority, which effected the seizure has confirmed the development.
Deputy Director of MRA Corporate Affairs Steven Kapoloma said the action was taken on Friday, 25th August 2017 after the owner acknowledged using falsified documents during customs clearance.
“The owner has since paid additional duty of K16.2 million and a fine of K15 million. The Authority would like to remind members of the public that making a false declaration to MRA is a serious offence under the tax laws which attracts hefty fines and imprisonment of three years upon conviction” Kapoloma said.
The four buses have been parked MRA’s offices in Lilongwe and Blantyre.
Winston Msowoya, where are you? I miss your comments!
