Phiri, who apologised for the postponement, said the event has been rescheduled for Chirunga ground in Zomba on 25 July, 2015.

“The change has come at the request of the sponsors who have indicated that will be comfortable to have the championship take place on 25th of July, 2015 at the same venue.”

He said AAM respected the decision of the sponsors hence this change of date with an apology to you.

Phiri  said the association was working hard to have the championship held next month.

In a related development the association had assured athletes that the Kuchawe Mountain Road Race would still be held next Saturday in Zomba.

“In the course of this change, AAM would like to invite you to the Kuchawe Mountain Road race that is taking place on4th July, 2015 in Zomba,” he said.

“AAM would like you also extend this invitation to all other stakeholders to be part of this championship.”

But an athlete who spoke on conditions of anonymity blamed the association for cancelling at the eleventh hour.

“We are not worried with the postponement but the manner in which it was done. How can they inform us with just two days before the competition,” said the athlete.
