However, the Championship Play-off for Cezobal Men League A has gone to the wire with league leaders Central Knights facing a swim or sink tie against rivals Cougars in the final round of the best-of-three series after the two giants shared spoils in the first two rounds.

Unlike the men play-offs, the ladies’ showcase was rather a one-way traffic on the part of Bravehearts Ladies, who did not need all the three rounds of the best-of-three series to concur their opponents.

Participating in the ladies’ Play-offs were top four sides from the Women League- Bravehearts Ladies, Angels, Lady Dynamites and Capital Clippers. Leaders Bravehearts Ladies, who finished the league with a 100 percent record played third-placed Dynamites while second-placed Angels met fourth-placed Clippers.

After easing through their semi-final opponents, Bravehearts and Angels met in the final, which saw Bravehearts cementing their superiority after winning the first two of the best-of-three series to end the contest before the final round.

The Bravehearts won the first round 73-39 before earning a hard fought 54-46 against the Angels in the second game at Civo Court on Sunday. Lady Dynamites won a third-place play-off against Clippers to maintain their third position.

Commenting on the victory against rivals Angels, who were last year’s women champions, Bravehearts Captain Lisungu ‘Lisuby’ Banda saluted Angels for putting up a gallant fight in the second game.

“As you can see from the margin, they came very hard on us in the second game- thanks to our girls for their hard work and endurance. Angels are a great team and they were champions last season but our team has improved a lot after securing the sponsorship from G.Y Imports & Exports and Dr Print,” said Banda.

While the ladies’ final only lasted two rounds, the men final involving league leaders Central Knights and their runners-up Cougars goes to the wire this Saturday as the two teams meet in the deciding match at the Civo Court.

Cougars shocked the leaders 52-46 during the first final play-off but the Knights came breathing fire in the second game, which they won 59-49.

Knights cruised to the final after defeating ABC Lions while Cougars won against Mimbulu.
