Lhomwe People Have Suffered Enough; We Are Also Malawians- Mulli

The Chairperson for Mulhako Wa Alhomwe, one of the cultural groupings in the country, Leston Mulli has accused Tonse Alliance administration of persecuting people belonging to the Lhomwe belt.

Mulli was speaking during Mulhako Wa Alhomwe’s annual festival preparatory meeting held at Chonde Headquarters in Mulanje district.

He said Lhomwe people are being treated as ‘refugees or illegal immigrants’ in their own country.

Among others, Mulli cited the mass unlawful arrest and dismissal of all of Lhomwe people in senior positions in government departments as some of the examples of political persecution and suffering the Lhomwes are going through.

“We (Lhomwes) are suffering in our own country, it seems we have a certain group of people who are more Malawians than us,” said Mulli while calling upon the government to treat all Malawians equally regardless of race, culture and place of origin.

He added: “We cannot continue to be living in fear in our own country; you can arrest and persecute us the way you want but we are not afraid, we will always forge ahead in unity.”

Both Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Kasunda and Government spokesperson Gospel Kazako were not immediately available for their response.

Last month, Mulhako Wa Alhomwe conducted demonstrations against ‘continued political persecution’ in Phalombe and Blantyre districts respectively.

Mulhako Wa Alhomwe was established in 2007 by former president the late Bingu wa Mutharika.

The Lhomwes are largely concentrated in Chiradzulu, Mulanje, Phalombe, Thyolo and some parts of Blantyre and Zomba.

  1. This should be a lesson next time do not tribalize government. There is no persecution but putting things right. If you did not steal nor connived with fellow tribeman yo commit crime no need to worry. But if you did, you have to account.

  2. The problem is that you took over everything when Dpp was in rulling, now tense alliance is trying to disperse some of you so that other tribes can also acquire positions in malawi in order for the country to be for everyone and not for lomwe people only, now you think you are being iltreated and segregated.

  3. Wow Mr Mulli! You have a point to tell us that those prosecuted are Lhomwes, it means a Lhomwe inu bdinu okonda kupalamula milandu ndiponso munalembana ntchito m’boma nokha nokha ndupanga katangale if its true according to your statement.

Because you were all Lhomwes you did not follow the law hence you are the most prosecuted, dismissed from departments.
Thank you for agreeing to nepotism, rot that was exercised by previous Lhomwe government.

Zoona Mulli kutenga ngongole kuti mubweza in 100 something years ndi chilungamo? Inuyo a Mulli mungaupatse munthu ngongole for 36 months?

Think properly sir, your speech has so many questions because you are one of the exposed. Zoona ine ndikugulitseni bus ndiye mufunanso malo pamene ndinali kupakila bus yo? Aaaayi Mulli ndiwe munthu wankulu, those are two properties each has its own value …… munaba inu!

  4. Hiding from his true portrait by employing a tribal card. Wave it high it will gain sympathy for your criminal activities. Remember crimes don’t need any cosmetic touches. The hand of law will claw you out of any crowd too comfortable for law.

  5. When you broke the laws of this country you thought you were more Malawian than any other person in this country. Just imagine you took all bus terminals as your own personal property. Bus terminals belongs to government. Do not incite innocent people to hate gaffment just because you want to hide from the long arm of the law. You also took loan of billions of Kwacha ang you said you will repay in 50yrs, that’s rediculous. You made the bed and it’s time for you to lie on it.

  6. Muli just pay back the loan of billions you took and to pay back in 100 years

You need to be arrested and jailed for sponsoring demonstration to force the government to resign. This is treason
We demonstrated against rigged elections by Peter mutharika and we did not force him to resign before he finished his team .

  7. Very dangerous utterances from Muli
You are one of the people who sponsored the demo to loot shops and vandalising properties
