Lilongwe Mayor endorses Standard Bank ‘Be More Race’
As countdown to Standard Bank “Be More “Lilongwe race scheduled for July 30, 2017 continues, Lilongwe city mayor Desmomd Bikoko has officially endorsed the event to be hosted in the city.
Speaking to journalists in Lilongwe Bikoko welcomed the Standard Bank Marathon saying it would bring back life into the city.
“This is agreat ret initiative and we are in full support of the race. It’s a very welcoming for the city as it will bring life back into the city and is very encouraged that it is happening in the city and its happening at such a time that we are going through changes within the city,” said Bikoko
Bikoko said the event also create a platform for the city to interact with Lilongwe city residents on the master plan.
“We have agreed to support StandardBank in this race as such we will be providing some logistical support in terms of security. We are also putting up our table where we want to actually now to tell the general public what Lilongwe city council does key is Lilongwe city council master plan because the city feels that this is a platform for us to talk to the residents of Lilongwe,” he said.
Standard Bank Head of Marketing Thoko Unyolo said the preparations were at an advanced stage with more people registering to take part.
“We are encouraged with the response from our customers and another who want to participate in this event. The registration process is ongoing and I would like to urge our customers and all athletes to join the race,” said Unyolo.
The race has been split into three key legs of 5 km, 10 km and 21 km for both men and women and children above the age of 10 years
