According to the Central region Alumni Coordinator Pilirani Kachulu, the budget for the events is pegged at K2 millionand currently just over half a million has been raised.

However, there are fundraising activities lined up including serious pledges from some Alumni themselves.

Victor Katchika-Jere who is the Alumni president and Hope Chisamanga as his vice highlighted the problems the school is currently facing as per their recent visit to the institution.

Poor Sanitation due to corrosion of the galvanized pipes is the main problem that led to increased water bills of up to k1.8m per month and overall dilapidated structures.

The Alumni recently donated PVC pipes worth over half a million kwacha to the School in order to circumvent the water problem.

Currently, the work is in progress and water bills have since been reduced to as low as K500,000 since the leaking galvanized pipes have been replaced by pvc pipes.

On the commemoration day, the Alumni plan to paint hostels which are in bad state and arrange to support needy students with tuition fees as part of addressing the many problems enlisted by the school committee.

George Maruwo the Alumni publicity secretary said they have a LUSS Alumni account number 0005263825009 domiciled at FMB Capital City Branch where all former Luchenza Secondary School students both within and outside Malawi are encouraged to deposit their contributions towards the commemoration events and Alumni membership fee is K1000 per month.

‘’ We are urging participation by all LUSS Alumni and all other interested members of the general public including the corporate world willing to assist to join us.,” said Pilirani Kachulu

In a bid to reach out to more former students, LUSSA established a Facebook page and a Whatsapp group. In addition, LUSSA has functional committees in the southern, Central and Eastern Regions of Malawi of which the regional committees meet once in a month.

Some prominent LUSS Alumni include Owen Kandulu General Manager at Central Poultry, Bright Molande Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Chanco, Charles Mukiwa Program Manager at Emmanuel International, Victor Katchika-Jere Deputy Country Director at Norwegian Development Fund and Jones Chabwera Manager at FDH Bank.

Others are Chancy Muloza-Banda of Zodiak, Dorothy Chinangwa General Manager at Electrocard Systems, Lizzie Mbalambe-Msusa of Macra , Jack N’riva Industrial court judge, Hamlet Malika of MSB , Hankie Uluko and Kingsley Mikwamba both university ;ecturers at Luanar and NRC .

Be careful with mentioning names. It splits groups. Next time just talk about Luchenza. And the message will have the same impact. Learn from the west. Success is not measured in academic credentials.

HeyHeyHey: Point of correction. Mr. Chris Loka. Am sorry! Dr. Bright Mollande is not the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. The dean is Dr. Syned Mthatiwa. Mollande is one of the lecturers in the Faculty. OK. Check with Chanco management or call any of us students there studying BA degrees ok.
