Lucius Banda condition improves in SA clinic, Malawians offer prayers

Malawi’s award winning and top selling musician Lucius Chicco Banda was on Sunday rushed to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in Midlands, South Africa after his blood pressure went up.

However, the musician who is popularly known as ‘Soldier’ is out of danger after leaving the ICU despite still being on a hospital bed where he was admitted on Friday.

Soldier left for South Africa last week on an invitation to perform at a wedding gathering but was reportedly taken ill and admitted to hospital.

Lucius Banda: In stable condition, moved out of ICU

According to a family member who declined to be named, the record seller was now feeling much better after being discharged from the ICU.

“He is out of the ICU but is still in hospital as he continues getting treatment,” the artist’s family member told Nyasa Times Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, hundreds of his fans both locally and internationally have crowded the social networks particularly Facebook sending messages of quick recovery to the 42-year-old music icon.

“Get well soon Soldier. The days ahead of you are better than the days behind you,” said one of the hundreds who sent the messages, a lady answering to the name Aluna Phiri.

Renowned for his hard hitting songs, Lucius undisputedly remains the country’s most successful musicians having produced over 15 music albums since he launched his singing music.

Born in 1970, the Balaka based musician also has a desirable style of composing and singing innovative songs on a wide arrangement of thought-provoking and heart-lifting issues.

Lucius briefly served as a Member of Parliament at his home area, Balaka North, but he lost the seat after he was convicted and sentenced to 21 months imprisonment with hard labour on charges of faking his academic qualifications.
