Lucius Banda’s Time: To launch DVD Sunday, South Africa’s Dr Malinga to perform

Malawian music icon Lucius Banda launches the DVD for his 17th album on Sunday at Lilongwe Golf Club which will be headlined by top South African artist Dr Malinga, famed for the hit song ‘Via Orlando.’

Speaking to Nyasa Times, Lucius said he is excited to finally launch the DVD as there has been a huge demand for the videos since he launched the CD two months ago.

“We are excited about the launch because people have been asking for it. Even when we were launching the CD, people were asking for the DVD so this shows what kind of demand there is,” said the self-styled soldier of the poor.

The musician assured viewers that the DVD, which contains 13 videos, is a note higher than his previous productions.

“We have invested a lot of time and effort in this project and I can assure people that they will have fun watching this. Even the love scenes in the videos have been properly done,” he said.

The DVD contains the hit song ‘Paulendo’. But a surprise addition is an old Lucius song ‘Lilikuti Lilikuti’.

“This was a major song and it has always remained relevant to the times so I thought it was time to do a video for the song as we never had time to do the videos back then,” he said.

On the choice of Dr Malinga, Lucius said the musician is currently at the top of his game.

“Dr Malinga is at his peak right now and that is why we opted for him. He is so in demand that we failed to book him for two shows as he has to fly out to the UK after his performance here. Of course, we had indicated that we’d bring Lucky Dube’s Band but we failed to do so due to logistical problems so we will bring them for the summer festival in September,” he said.

Lucius Banda quotes Alexander the so-called Great to remind us that the only treasure on Earth is time.

“When we lose time, we can never reclaim time,” warns the title of his newest album, Time.
