Luthando Holdings Donates Motorcycles to Paramount Chiefs in Historic Independence Gift
In a powerful display of patriotism and community appreciation, Luthando Holdings Limited has marked Malawi’s 61st Independence Anniversary with an extraordinary gift — brand-new Yamaha YBR125 motorcycles worth MK128.8 million, handed over to all Paramount Chiefs across the country.
Dubbed a “gift of mobility”, the donation is more than just a symbolic gesture. It’s a practical investment in Malawi’s cultural custodians—those who, far from the limelight, are constantly in motion resolving disputes, rallying communities, and preserving tradition in the face of modern challenges.
Among the recipients of the motorcycles are:
•Paramount Chief Kawinga of Machinga
•Paramount Chief Lundu of Chikwawa
•Paramount Chief Mbelwa of Mzimba
•Paramount Chief Kyungu of Karonga
•Paramount Chief Kaduya of Mulanje & Phalombe
•Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe of Rumphi
•Paramount Chief Gomani V of Ntcheu
•Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Mchinji Ngoni
Speaking on the gesture, Luthando Holdings said the motorcycles are intended to ease the mobility of messengers and aides who act on behalf of the Chiefs across often challenging terrains.
“Traditional leaders are the backbone of community cohesion and cultural identity,” said a representative of Luthando Holdings. “We recognise their day-to-day efforts, and we believe this donation will strengthen their reach and responsiveness in serving their people.”
This patriotic gesture reflects the company’s broader philosophy: that strong, connected communities begin with empowered leadership at the grassroots.
As Malawi reflects on 61 years of independence, this initiative stands as a reminder that development is not only driven by government and private enterprise — but also by those who sit at the heart of our villages and towns, bridging the past and future.
Happy Independence Day, Malawi — and hats off to our Chiefs, who now ride in style!
