M Theatres to hold Malawi movie awards in Sept

In a bid to promote and enhance the Malawian films industry usually called Mollywood, M Theatres have announced an award ceremony
scheduled to take place on September 30, 2017 at M Theatres in Blantyre, located below Game Stores at Chichiri Shopping mall.

Speaking to Nyasa Times, M Theatres owner Sunduzwayo Jere said the aim was to provide a platform on which Mollywood producers, actors, actresses and script writers can grow and thrive.

“We believe that we will be able to expose our cultural heritage, values and talent through such creative arts. Mollywood will reduce
unemployment in our country when matured as it takes a lot of manpower to produce a film, starting from script writers, editors, producers, directors, actors, actresses, photographers and handy men among
others.

“We hope this platform will also expose many players and even provide a distribution channel for their films,” Jere observed.

He further described the response as overwhelming, saying they have so far received eleven movies.

“We are overwhelmed with the response as we have over 11 movies already submitted. The Malawian movies will be screened every Saturday at 5 p:m, Charges are K 4,000 per Adult and K 3,000 per Child. The
first movie was screened on Aug 12 and this will continue until September 29.

“The awards will be red carpet event and the dress code is ‘kill it’ as we want everybody to dress hard. M Theatres will host an after-party after the awards event on the same night,” Jere disclosed.

Submissions can be made [email protected]
