Malawi Forum for Unity and Development (Mafunde) candidate for Chibanja Ward by-elections, Ulaya Kaunda says he is frustrated with his party for rendering him no support in his bid, and is since contemplating on rallying behind opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Kaunda told Nyasa Times that he was “financing his candidature from his own pocket” and that it was “tearing his apart.”
He said he expected “at least something from the party” considering the fact he was its candidate.
Said Kaunda: “Of course they gave some party cloth. But there is nothing they have offered me since I started my campaign. I expected some financial and moral motivation from the party.”
Apparently, Nyasa Times learnt, no senior party official has supported Kaunda’s bid for the by-election scheduled for August, 25 this month.
“That is why I want to join MCP,” said Kaunda, “and I will support their candidate.”
MCP candidate for the area is Charles Mlogera, a public health specialist.
Added Kaunda: “But my condition to join will be that they help in bailing me out of my financial debts.”
He said once that is done he would offer his services and supporters to the MCP candidate.
Mzuzu City MCP constituency governor Joseph Kamanga said Kaunda was “welcome” to their party.
“Let him come. He is very welcome,” said Kamanga.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
