The Blantyre Magistrate Court has sentenced a convicted robber Steven Nkhoma to lengthy prison term after being found guilty of robbery with violence which is contrary to section 301 of the penal code.
The court heard that Nkhoma, who was a Kanyenya seller at Bwandiro, attacked a Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority (MACRA) official at the MACRA offices on November 28, 2014 when the official was coming from the bank.
The court further heard that Nkhoma alongside four other men grabbed the lady after threatening her with a gun and snatched from her K3.5million and a car which was later recovered.
The court heard that Police later spotted Nkhoma in Lilongwe he was quickly arrested and later sent to Blantyre while the other four suspects are still at-large.
Senior Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba said he slapped lengthy jail term for the horrendous, savage and barbaric crimes Nkhoma committed.
Magistrate Nyimba said Nkhoma needs to go to prison and serve for 15 years in prison with hard labour in order to deter would be robbers.
Nyimba said the robbery cases are becoming rampant now and that there is great need to protect the society from the robbers.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
