Malata, Lanjesi doubtful for Carlsberg Cup final

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullet’s will meet for the fourth time in the finals of the Carlsberg Cup at the Bingu  National Stadium with similar set back’s of missing centrebacks.

Not lucky: Malata said to be injured

Wanderers are likely to be without their last summer signing Lucky Malata while John Lanjesi continues to be on the sidelines for Bullets due to injury. Malata was the missing link for the Nomad’s last game in the first round of the TNM Super League against his former club Silver Strikers following an injury he sustained during the Mzuni Football Club a week ago.

Lanjesi on the other hand has been on the sidelines for a big part of the season with a back problem. Bullets Team Manager James Chilapondwa earlier told Nyasa Times that they have replacemens for Lanjesi ahead of Saturday’s game.

“We know how good John is. We really miss him as captain of the team but we have equally good players to fill the gap as we have done in the previous games. We played with Wanderers a few weeks ago without him and hope do the same in the Cup final on Saturday,” said Chilapondwa.

Since joining the Lali-Lubani outfit, Malata has been a regular for the club forming solid partnership with Harry Nyirenda, a development which worries Wanderers Team Manager Steve Madeira.

However, the former Azam Tigers Team Manager was quick to point out that his team has good depth ahead of Saturday’s clash.

“We have quality players ready to fill the gap. Boston is equally good as he did with Silver on Sunday. Malata has been one of our oustanding players since joining us and we will surely miss him yes but we are a complete team. We are ready for Bullets especially knowing that there is big money at stake,” said Madeira.

The meeting between Wanderers and Bullets will be the fourth time since the Carlsberg Cup was introduced. Wanderers are the defending Champions having won it back to back in the past two seasons.
