According to the organizers, This year’s Fashion and Glam has decided to infuse Fashion with visual Art which will define the theme for 2017 as FashionArt (Fashion meets Art), a theme that has been inspired by the beneficiary.

The theme also aims to highlight and enhance visibility of locally established and emerging talent in the fashion and visual art
industry, as Malawi is underserved by local creativity hence the dependence on imported creative goods.

“Fashion and Glam seeks to connect the art and culture sectors by bridging the gap between markets and consumers with the community of fashion designers and visual artists. Malawi boasts a community of art and cultural assets that will create dynamic socio-economic
development in a multifaceted context, in both national and international markets,” said Fawzia Osman, one of the organizers.

She further disclosed that part of the proceeds will be donated to Fount for Nations, an organization that teaches children with learning
difficulties using arts as a medium of instruction.

“Fount for Nations is an organization founded by 23yr old Patience Musiwa. It is a youth-led non-profit organization in Malawi whose
chief aim is to inspire a breakthrough in education by empowering teachers with skills and tools to better engage students, including
and particularly those with special learning needs to also achieve learning outcomes that impact the learners, educators, their families
and communities. This is a runway platform for a Cause,” Fawzia explained.

Fount for nations’ youth volunteer program also allows the youth to learn basic work skills, engage actively in the community development and develop life skills.

The program engages parents and caregivers, creating a platform for community dialogue and cooperation centred around learning which is not limited to the core learning in school but more broadly on social development and change.

Fashion and Glam is a one-day fashion show by Encore Creatives PR and Event, with part of the proceeds being donated to a thematic area  as its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The inspiration for creating Fashion and Glam was to bring togethe the creative collective in Lilongwe and its surrounding cities, then
connect their talents and produce a show that is themed, multifaceted within the city of Lilongwe which would in turn help boost Malawi’s creative economy and benefit the less fortunate.
