Malawi army in recruitment drive, to hire 800 soldiers

Malawi army has embarked on strength boosting exercise  and says it plans to  hire up to 800 new recruits.

Spokesman of the Malawi Defence Force, Francis Kakhuta said  the barracks will hire 100 women regular soldiers in the recruitment drive.

He said the army wants to recruit new soldiers every year.

The army, apart from sending soldiers to peace keeping missions abroad and the country’s boarders including the Chichiri Army camp, has been used in internal security matters of bringing peace and public order which is under the jurisdiction of the police.

While in the past the MDF used to carry out the recruitment exercises in every district, this year, the exercise will only take place at four centers categorized by the geographical regions.

All candidates from the seven districts of the Northern Region will gather at Mzuzu Stadium on their respective dates. Those in the Central will tussle at Lilongwe Community Centre Ground while aspirants in Eastern and Southern Regions will be at Zomba Community Centre Ground and Kamuzu Stadium respectively.

The MDF is, however, advising all prospective candidates that change of designated place for interviews will not entertain.

The Defence Force normally ferries those recruited direct to their regional battalions (1st battalion in Zomba for those recruited in the southern and eastern regions, 2nd battalion for central region and 3rd battalion for north) before taking them to the training college at the Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) in the lakeshore district of Salima.
