To cap this celebratory ambiance, the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) in cohort with the school’s alumni has lined up some activities Blantyre and Lilongwe.

In an interview with Nyasa Times, spokesperson for the school’s alumni, Soviet Kabungwe, said two street parades will take place Blantyre and Lilongwe aimed at hyping for the main event and to raise funds for the school.

“The Blantyre parade will start from Old Mutual through Ryalls Hotel and National Bank of Malawi Head Office, down Independence Drive through Victoria Avenue and Chipembere Highway up to the Upper Kamuzu Stadium. In Lilongwe the parade will start from City Centre to old town Game Complex,” he said, adding: “All parades will start at 8 am.”

According to Kabungwe, the parades will be led by the MDF brass band and the school is calling upon all former and current students to come in large numbers to patronize these events.

Said Kabungwe:  “As members of MDFSS alumni, we would like to take advantage of the Jubilee to raise funds to be channeled towards mitigating some of the challenges the school is currently facing.

“Among other things, we would like to build two hostel blocks, one for boys and another one for girls as well as re-stocking the library with new books plus upgrading its infrastructure. We are therefore appealing to the corporate world and any well-meaning individuals to help this obvious great concept to achieve even greater thing.”

There will also be a fund-raising dinner and dance at the Kamuzu Barracks Officer’s Mess on the evening of October 7, 2016, after the Lilongwe street parade.

Guest of honour will be Army Commander, General Griffin Supuni Phiri who is also patron for the school.

“The theme for the celebration is ‘we keep the faith’ and we are especially extending this invitation to all alumni of MDFSS to come and patronize these fund-raising activities and to contribute towards the betterment of their Alma-Marta,” said Kabungwe
