Malawi coach Chimodzi hails important win over Chad
Malawi national team head coach Young Chimodzi hailed a ‘very important’ victory after the Flames beat Chad 2-0 on Saturday at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre to ensure a good start in the qualifying series of the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
“It’s important that we have won the game. Of course we could have scored more goals but I am happy that we have won by 2-0,” Chimodzi told Nyasa Times in a post-match interview.
“It’s a good start for us. This is what we wanted, to win by at least two goals because you never know what will happen in the second leg in Chad. There are areas we need to work on though. We also need to improve in midfield”.
The coach, however, admitted that Chad gave his side a tough game, noting that they needed hard work and discipline to overcome the Sao in the return encounter.
It was coach Chimodzi’s first win in a competitive game after 0-0 draw against Tanzania and a 4-1 loss to Zimbabwe since over reins of the Flames.
Malawi travel to Chad on the weekend of May 30 and a draw will be enough to see them through to the next round, for a date with either Sao Tome Principe or Benin.
