Malawi coach Chimodzi names complete squad for Benin game 

Malawi national football team coach Young Chimodzi has released a list of 12 local players to join eight professionals for the game against Benin in the third round of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Thursday released names of eight professionals but held the local players to avoid affecting Friday training of the team.

Chimodzi dropped Bullets goalkeeper Vincent Gona opting for Moyale Barracks’ MacDonald Harawa and Mighty Wanderers’ Richard Chipuwa following the injury to first choice goaltender Silver Strikers’ Charles Swine.

Wanderers’ Francis Mlimbika, Civo United’s John Lanjesi, Silver;s Lucky Malata and Bullets Sankhani Mkandawire have made the trip as defenders.

Silver’s Young Chimodzi Jnr, Frank Banda and Ndaziona Chatsalira, Blue Eagles Christopher John Banda will anchor the midfield while Gastin Simkonda and Deus Nkuti have been picked to provide the striking force buffer.

The 12 players join Joseph Kamwendo of DRC’s TP Mazembe, Limbikani Mzava and Gabadinho Mhango of Bloemfontein Celtic, Harry Nyirenda of Black Leopards, Atusaye Nyondo of University of Pretoria, Robin Ngalande of Ajax Cape Town based in South Africa Chiukepo Msowoya and Chimango Kayira of Mozambique’s Costol do Sol.

The team leave the country on Saturday midnight and is expected to arrive in Kampala, Uganda in the early hours of Sunday ready for the game.

FAM General Secretary said all professionals but Kamwendo would feature in the friendly.

The team will face Benin on July 20 in the Africa Cup of qualifiers third round fixture in which the winner of the two legs would join Algeria, Ethiopia and Guinea in group stages of the qualifiers.
