Malawi coach demands another friendly

Flames coach Young Chimodzi has asked the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to consider organizing another friendly match before the team takes part in the 15th edition of Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup tournament slated for May.

Chimodzi made the plea after the Flames were held 1-1 against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania on Sunday.

Veteran Striker Essau Kanyenda opened the scores three minutes into the match but the host equalized deep into the second half.

According to Chimodzi, the team is in good shape but need a little polish up.

He has however hailed new players that were drafted into the team for the first time.

“I would love to have other friendly featuring only local players before we go to Cosafa”

“We so far have a good team and the future looks promising” said Chimodzi.

South Africa will host the Cosafa Cup from 17th to 30th May, 2015.

This year’s event was planned to be played at the end of the league season in May to allow all competing countries field full strength line-ups.

Flames has never won the tournament but twice reached the finals under the mentorship of former Danish coach Kim Splidsboel.

mr Chimodzi u r not serious.bcz the team that u r saying is in good shape is the one that has being tasted and failed us many time.U cnt expect a team full bench warmer proffesinals to be in Good shape.Had u said that refering to local player-i wld hve agreed with u to some extent.

Much as we wish the team to have another friendly, but he needs to be efficient with the available resources and opportunity. Young Chimodzi knows the financial constraints Malawi or FAM has, he could have used the same friendly in TZ to test all the players. The players could share the halves to showcase their capabilities. He already knows how others play, his main focus could be on the new faces, thats difficult now to believe him. We wish the Flames well.
