Malawi Immigration Department says it has ordered late president Bingu WA Mutharika’s children to surrender their diplomatic passports and that all former ministers with diplomatic passports should also surrender.
Chief Immigration Officer Hudson Mankhwala confirmed to Nyasa Times that the published reports on the matter were true, saying the revocation of the diplomatic passports in not only targeting former ministers and Mutharika’s children but all those whose privilege ended.
“Even those that were in diplomatic mission and as well those that were given diplomatic passports by former presidents,” he said.
Mankhwala said his department will replace the diplomatic passports with the ordinary ones.
But Mutharika’s children have sought legal help from Kalekeni Kaphale law firm on the matter if it can be challenged in courts.
