Malawi drop one step on Fifa rankings
Malawi national football team, who last played competitively in the 1-0 win over Swaziland in the dead rubber 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in September, have dropped one ladder of the Fifa world rankings to 100 from 99.
They are number 27 in Africa, whose leaders are Côte d’Ivoire, the Nations Cup defending champions, who are 31 in the world.
Senegal are second in Africa but 32 in the world while Algeria are third and 35 in the world.
Favourite teams who failed to qualify for the 2017 Afcon Nigeria and South Africa are on position 12 and 14 respectively. Nigeria are 60th in the world and South Africa 62nd.
Morocco, who qualified for the Gabon Afcon, are 13th in Africa and 60 equal with Nigeria in the world.
