Malawi eliminated in Nations Cup after Chad draw

Malawi national team, the Flames, saw their hopes of qualifying for next year’s   Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea 2012 dashed in the air after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Chad in their final qualifying group match.

Malawi needed to win to seal automatic qualification at the expense of Tunisia who had to win and expect a favour from Chad- which the Central African Nation indeed helped them by holding the southern African side.

A strike from Robert Ng’ambi on 35 minutes gave the Flames the lead but they blew it away before restoring the lead again.

Chad then  hit back late into the game, leaving the second qualifying spot in the Group K to be scooped by Tunisia.

Elsewhere, Tunisia whipped Togo 2-0 and earned qualification to the Nations Cup finals.

Malawi first lead but Chad equalised. The Flames went ahead six minutes before regulation time and gave away the lead in the dying minutes to concede a heart break draw.

Flames: Tough luck
