Malawi Fashion Week to be officially unveiled this Saturday

The Malawi Fashion Week (MFW) will this Saturday, May 25, 2013 hold a motorcade in the streets of Lilongwe as the official unveiling of the inaugural fashion fest the country will be hosting from next week Thursday.

The parade, which is scheduled to kickoff at 9am, will start from Area 18A Taxi Rank, through City Centre, Chidzanja Road and then connecting into M1 Road to Crossroads and end at Portuguese Club.

According to MFW PR Manager Kimpho Hastings Loka, several activities have been lined up as part of the parade and these will include an exhibition by the MFW 2013 models as well as a live music performance to be headlined by renowned musician Lulu.

“During the street parade, we will have motorbikes, company floats, children fashionistas, aspiring models, dancers and musicians, among others,” he said.

Those interested to be part of the motorcade are supposed to register by calling 0211552592, 0997581962, 0884005336 and registration fee is K2, 000 and at Portuguese Club, entry fee is K300.

Meanwhile, the MFW organizers have announced the arrival of Neetasha Singh, a South African model who will be joining local models and other international models who will be rocking the runway at MFW.

“She arrived Friday afternoon at 12:35 through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe,” said Loka, adding, “While in the country, the world-renowned model and boot camp trainer will also have time to train the local models”.

Loka further said “Neetasha will make a very big impact because she has vast experience in modeling, having travelled a lot and participated in many fashion weeks across the globe. Her expertise will help our models, the Malawi Fashion Week and the Malawi model and fashion industry”.

The MFW 2013 will run from May 30 to June at the Presidents Hotel in the capital city, with 14 designers expected to showcase 10 pieces each.

Several entertainment activities have also been lined up during the four-day event whose tickets are selling at K6, 000 and K10,000 for general and VIP admission, respectively.

In Lilongwe the tickets are available at Sunbird’s Capital and Lilongwe Hotels while in Blantyre they are selling at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel. For the grand opening night, May 31st, there are corporate tables available at K90, 000 for ten people and K55, 000 for six people.
