Spokesperson for the ministry of Local Government Muhlabase Mughogho said the councillors, the rock bottom public officers, will start getting the loans next month.

She said the councillors are expected to buy motor cycles for themselves so that they are able to supervise development projects effectively and efficiently in their respective wards.

“Councils will deduct their allowances at source,” said Mughogho.

The ward councillors are entitled to a stipend every month that differ from city councils to district councils.

On average they get about K100, 000 a month but get extra when they meet in chambers.

The approval comes barely days after they met President Peter Mutharika a Kamuzu Palace.
