Malawi Government has said it will buy a K7billion new software for integrated financial management systems (IFMS) following hiccups the current version is facing.

Finance ministry spokesperson Nations Msowoya said the new IFMS software would be bought before December.

“As you might be aware, the Baker Telly report recommended we buy a new software and we will do so this year before December,” he said.

Civil servants, public officers and government pensioners will have a delayed July salary and pension because IFMS experienced network problems for two weeks.

Nyasa Times has established no civil servant has received a July pay cheque as on Tuesday.

Msowoya said Finance ministry officials and IT experts went shopping in southern Africa countries for the software.

“The government has engaged other software companies to help procure the advanced software for out IFMS,” he said.

He was optimistic the World Bank would bankroll the purchase of the software.

Proprietary software systems are damn expensive, whereas equivalent open source softwares commonly used by academics and poor people are free and cost hell if one has to hire expert to customise

Even the most expensive applications from Oracle or Microsoft or GIS applications dont cost that much, major costs must come from licensing the application

You sold MSB to FDH for 4 billion. This means that this software is worth more than the bank that had the largest network in the country…!!! Armageddon is coming soon indeed….
