Malawi hire K300m luxury jet for President Mutharika New York trip

Malawi President’s Peter Mutharika appetite in spending tax payer’s money in time of social economic and political doldrums, continue to surface as recent investigations which Nyasa Times has made has revealed that Malawians will have to cough out more than K300 million in hiring of Global Express Bombardier BD-700-1A10 modern Jet from Ocean Sky Private Jet Company in London, United Kingdom.

Mutharika chartered a plane for his bloated entourage to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

State House sources conversant with the deal confided with Nyasa Times that the President is using one of the most luxurious jets in the world, Global Express Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Registration Number OE-IGS.

Online information shows that Global Express aircrafts are modern jets manufactured in Canada and are used by world class executives. They can fly across continents in the world with one stop refuelling and very reliable because of comfort and high speed.

“This is a very expensive jet because Government is spending 12,800USD per flight hour,” Nyasa Times sources indicated.

The aircraft was spotted at Kamuzu International on Sunday 20th September with European pilots and left on Monday afternoon with President Mutharika.

Investigations further reveal that Bombardier Jet takes 21 Hours to fly from Kamuzu International Airport to USA.

What this means is that the poor country, Malawi will have to cough out 268,800USD at the rate of 21 Hours times per hour charge of 12,800USD one way.

Our investigations further reveal that Bombardier Jet owners will go smiling to the bank with a cool 537,680USD after the end of the contract.

That figure is minus parking fees of 2000 USD per day and pilot allowances for three weeks in USA.

Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Jet is such an expensive because of its outstanding facilities.

These facilities includes satellite phones which one can use to call anybody in the world, have 4 beds, Luxurious wash rooms, In built Kitchen, Office equipped with luxurious sofas and adjustable tables. The owners advertise these facilities for business executives and politicians to see.

Global Express Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Jet has a capacity to carry 12 to 15 passengers according to aviation experts because they are designed for business executives.

Commentators have challenged President Mutharika to explain to the poverty-stricken Malawians why he had to use a foreign chartered plane using taxpayers’ money if he was fit and did not need any special treatment.

They further challenged the President to state why he could not board ordinary planes as past heads of state did, when he was fully aware that the nation was facing unprecedented economic challenges that needed urgent redress.

One commentator who accused Mutharika of being “so extravagant” said if the President’s health did not permit him to use ordinary planes, he should have instead asked his Vice-President Saulos Chilima or foreign affairs minister George Chaponda to represent him instead of wasting huge sums of money on chartering a foreign plane.

  1. Dear Peter Muthalika,as I have stated before pertaining to your tragic and egregious leadership,I would like to express my profound exasperaration as to your failure to facilitate the return of Masauko Chipembere’s remains to his homeland that he tirelessly and fearelessly fought to liberate from colonial rule so that me and you and indeed, the rest of our people must be free and independent.Your brother late Bingu, facilitated the return of his lifetime comrade in struggle Kanyama Chiume, even though he had ulterior motives. Then,Malawians were to go to the polls, and he was courting for votes from the north. One thing that is very troubling not only to me,but also to the overwhelming Malawians who had worked with Chip whether at home or exile is that, you have hopelessly forgotten his sense of nobility.Mr.President,the fact that most of the times you take morons and buffoons from your Lomwe clan to the USA using badly needed government funds, that you could use far less to facility the return of our hero’s ( Chip) remains to his homeland.Furthermore, you could also facilitate the remains of one of the brightest economists and nationalist of our time Dr.G.Attati Mphakati who was laid to rest in Harare,Zimbabwe in 1985 after his multilated body was found close to the city.Mr.President,it takes only 45 minutes flight to Lilongwe Int’l Airport. If you can load your dead woods into flights to the USA at astronomical price,I don’t see why you can fail to facilitate the return of the remains of our beloved and illustrious sons who are laid deep down in foreign lands.I hope Mr.President, you will come to terms with your conscience and act reasonably to return the remains of our authentic heroes as soon as possible.

  2. Shld have gone Bushiris way and hire a cheaper and old one from south Africa, kikikikiki

  3. probably the worse president in the history on Malawi. the problem is that ana anu samadya nawo chimanga chokazinga asa breakfast popita ku sukulu, samayenda wa pansi kwa mitunda yosachepera 5 km, akadakhala kuti nawoso amadya phala la mchere ngati angawa mukadawaganizira tsogolo lawo ndikupanga dongosolo lokoza chuma cha dzikoli kuti miyoyo ya a Malawi isinthe. ndinu odala because your fate directed you to that chair you are sitting on, on which one is able to misuse public financial resources in as far as he is the one to make a final decision.zikomo!!!!!

  4. It is a sad story to see that President Peter Wamuthalika shamelessly hired a private Jett at a stargaringly K300m amid devastating economic footing affecting the overwhelming majority of our people.Iam deeply flabbergasted to see how Peter runs our country in a nagative trend.I vividly recall when Peter joined the Pan African Democratic Party ( PDP) led by an illustrious son of our country the late Masauko Chipembere,he proved both capable and patriotic in line with Dr Attati Mphakati who was brutally assassinated in Harare,Zimbabwe by Banda’s killer squad trained in Israel former Intelligence Officer in Armed Forces late Liyabunya in 1985.To be fair with Peter,he demonstrated a sense of capability and self determination. When a meeting of donor nations was convened in Paris,France to press Banda bow to multiparty democracy in 1994,Peter with his own financial backup, went to Paris to join fellow exiles in this very historic gathering of our destiny, while the lord of opportunism,Dr.H.Ntaba represented the party of blood and darkness ( MCP).However,I was very impressed to notice Peter’s sense of commitment. However,it is sad and heart breaking to observe Peter’s present leadership trend ,that is entangled in vicious corruption and tribalism never seen in our country’s history.May be power is sweet in the words of the Late Zambian President Chiluba. In the event of the hiring of the private jet costing enormous sum of money in one of the poorest nations of the world, not only Malawians in diaspora are devastated, but also the international community. For how long will Malawians stand by beyond the barbed wire observing their hard fought freedom being taken away by thieves, dictators, tribalists etc.

  5. I think the the author is using kabaza to travelling around and out of Malawi as good example to readers

  8. peter muthalika’s proffesorial was due to extreme and timely collection of swine dung for manure. he is as brute as a std 3 which is why he has abolished jce. he is useless of all past, present and future presidents.

  9. This Is The Right Time For The Blind To Unveil Blindness. Those Who’re Focused Can’t Regret , Some Do So Coz Of Their Blindness Like Myself Isaw It Already And There Are Still Tough Times To Come, We Need To Hold Hands In Prayers For Our Beloved Country.

  10. One thing that I salute the late bingu was mutharika is how visionary the man was.zonse zimene amatsutsana ndi azungu lero tikukhulupilira kuti iye ndiamene amanena zowona. Ananena zothetsa njala azungu kumutsutsa iye ndikukwanilitsa. Ananena zosadalira azungu pa chuma lero ndimomwe tikudutsamo tidakapitiliza mommuja piano titapeza njira zina. Izi za ndege ndi zambiri lero tikukumbukira. Malawi will never have avissionary president like bingu. May your soul rest in peace ngwazi.

  11. Nyasatimes you are saying that jet is designed for world class executives. So don’t you know that state presidents are the most world class executives. You fellow Malawians what do you take of our presidents. You sold our jet saying it was too expensive maintaining it than hiring, were you sure saying that or was it out of mere envy. The future of this country relies on the way the majority think but unfortunately the majority are pig headed. Ma president athu amakhala ndi maganizo otukula dziko lino koma amalawi ndiye vuto.a malawi anzanga moti zowonakuti president wa Malawi ekha basi ndiamene alibe ndenge pa dziko lonse

  12. Thats the cost of selling a presidential jet, so don’t cry. Whatdo you think is the alternative? Buying the predident a Nissan march or Mazda demio to be driving to the US? Or he must fly in a cessna if flying is stil necessary? When shall malawians ever stop crying for nothing? When Bushiri charters a plane you clap hands. When Bushiri’s boss(the president) does the same he is considered inconsiderate and people can use all sorts of vocabulary the devil can teach them. ??????

  13. Who said Malawi is poor? Such corrupt vices should be delt with severely. Govt is rich, it sold POSB now what? Let the president enjoy the sweet chair.

  14. Amalawi inenso please forgive me.I voted for D PHI PHI koma zibwana izizi am sooo embarassed.ndinabetsadi vote.zoona mavuto onse ali in our hospitals the who learned Professoer President booking this luxurious Jet? May God forgive me and our leaders too for this. Come 2019 lets all vote wisely. May be Chakwera cud have done better.

  15. Running government is expensive.Maintaining the Presidency is damn expensive. This is why Caeser devised taxes for his Kingship.
When tax payers money is being spent( logically or illogically) it is very difficult for the tax payer to control the spenders. The only power a tax payer has is to vote into power the next guy to spend the taxes. Occassionally the tax payer is allowed a vote of no confidence to send the spenders packing.
When you write to tell us that the President is extravagant what do you expect us to do? To revolt? We don’t want premature deaths….The easiest is to run for presidency next time and enjoy tax payers money when victorious. No wonder Malawians with such mentality compete for presidency up to 12 in number when USA fields 2 candidates only.

  16. Eish Malawi have had educated presidents, just see……Dr H. Kamuzu Banda……Dr. Bakili Muluzi…..Dr. Bingu Wa Muntharika….Dr. Joice Banda and the current president Prof. Arthur Peter Munthalika….but why Malawi is still poor…should we say these were and are educated fools or there is no connection btwn educated and running the affairs of the country?

  17. EVEN IF WE ELECTED ABUSA TO LEAD MALAWI, HE COULD HAVE MISUSED OUR RESOURCES LIKE HE HAS BEEN DOING WITH CHURCH OFFERINGS, CHARITY AND DONATION RESOURCES.

  18. I voted for DPP but these guys are embarrassing, its not easy to back them coz they keep on making blanders after blanders. Ndipepese kwa ntundu wa a Malawi kuti ndinatengapo gawo poika anthu osaganizira amphawi amenewa pa mpando.

  19. Malawians are very sleepy kapena kupusa, this idiot has seen it that’s why he is doing what he likes

  20. zkuonesa kut ndalama zlipo koma ndzonjoyela kaye tsopano et ??…choyamba mwatenga ndege yot sikuenera nd umphawi wan2,,chawiri mwatenga an2 0kwana 107 ,,,kod ku new york kwasanduka ku malo opangrako holiday abakha a dpp ???..INE K3000 yomwe munanduza kut ndpereke sindpereka,,mumafuna muonjezere pa transport yanu yaku new york, yoo…mwagwanayo,,ndkatuluka ndzasukuluza mbuz zonse znapta kukaona obama ndi banja lake…MUMAONA NGAT KUNDMANGA NDE I WONT HV MWAYI OKUYAKHULANI PA NYASA ?????…MUZWANSO NGAT SIMUSITHA ……

  21. Ur so funny! So u want whole President, His Excellency Professor Peter Mutharika to hire a boat? That’s total nonsense! Thers no story here, akutumani? Water problem has been now solved and thers enough maize in all Ademarc satellites, write more about this. DPP! Boma beyond 2019 Boma! Boma! We ready to defend my President no matter what! Tukwanani, nyozani but u will never change the reality that we are the favoured tribe!

  22. Malawians are the most sleepy and docile on the globe. They are good at complaining over obvious issues but can hardly take any corrective action. The major problem with a Malawian is that they cherish victimization and broad day light exploitation.

The current leadership taste for luxury is not the first of its kind. Dr. Banda enjoyed more than it, Dr. Muluzi had his share so too Dr Bingu Mutharika and Dr. Joyce Banda. You will note that extravagance over taxpayer’s pulse was dimly highlighted by media. The reason is quite amazingly simple. These former leaders knew how to share resources amongst white collar job citizenry, party die hards and sections of ordinary citizens through food from bumper harvest and good education system, small businesses and insitutionalization of palpable poverty reduction strategies locally. In simple ways all the previous leaders had a better feel of what village life entails in terms of daily family needs and values.

The trouble with Professor Mutharika is that he is richly blessedwith global poverty perspectives. Genious per excellence at International law and litigation tussles he is a priceless pride for Malawi but currently occupying aposition that is unfairly demanding him to think local and act local.

Malawians should not expect instant adjustment of APM in his taste for luxury and also global aligned mindset. Give him time. He is also learning many things in the presidency.

  23. Indeed malawians are very good at saying or revealing only bad things. It started with kamuzu where only bad things were highlited. Then came muluzi who depite introducing free primary educatio, building schools and hospitals, was declared as a thief, dull etc, bengus coming acted as a relif but it took only a year or to before critics condemned him. Came Joice Banda she never enjoyed working as president. Now is peterr wamtharika whoo has been declared useless. Indeed very good at critiquing. No good things mucch has been said about number of people who accompanied to president to USA. No critique or comment on what he saidsl. Panopa is aboy the private and the shoes. Whant next now. Waiting

  24. No 41 is as useless as Muntharika. There is no cost benefit analysis here. People are suffering period. Dont even blame the author of the article. Dont even bring in Joyce because we are all know she messed up and we expect Muntharika to do better. There is no point taking the whole dpp party to UN assembly as if its a party function. Munthu wopenga wopanda nzeru ngati walemba comment number 41 sindinamuone. We expect our leaders to be looking at reason and not matter!!!!! Go to hell with your headless comments.

  25. Odanda bwana President, tinakuvoterani ndi manja athu titanyika chala mu ink. Tinafuna kuti inu muzikwera zimenezi, so awa akudandaulawa muwauze kuti adikile 2019 ndipamene angadzapange chipongwe osati lero ai. Kwerani jet yo ndipo ndalamazo idyani ku New York ko. We mandated you ndithu kkkkkkkk. Koma zochitika ku Nyasaland.

  26. Bushiri Wa prova. Where other fools are selling presidential jets,He has acquired two personal jets for easy travelling. Wanzeru ndani pamenepa?

  27. The president seems not to care about anything so long as zake zikuyenda. Three more good years to go under these tortures. We are being paid for the wrong choice we made. Sizosiirana izi ngati ufumu Wa mmagazi. Let’s learn from this mistake. No one from DPP should cheat us again. Mabodzz one mwatha mudzanamanso chiani? Mbuzi mxiii!

  28. My question is, if this president was human, wouldn’t he have just used the aircraft to travel to USA and release it to save costs? I mean this ndege is just sitting idle for two weeks milking the taxpayers’ money together with its staff if at all this is true. Then recall it to carry him back. I’m sure there would be some savings. Come on Mr clueless president think think think. Makawians are crying. Listen to their wails. And it doesn’t make any sense that you should be showing up at the UN every year. By the way what is your vice there for. He doesn’t show up anywhere. You don’t delegate any duties to him. If anything he shouldn’t be there at all. But don’t forget he helped YOU. Mr Vice President where are you? A Malawi dzukani kunja kwacha.

  29. prez, aman without mercy how can u spend alot of money in useless trip, this is also cashgate no different, just release kasambala, the money u spend is like commite murder to malawi

  30. Good Day all,

Here we see the consequences of selling the private jet or whatever happened to it. In all honesty keeping the presidential jet would have save millions and honestly to buy a new Jet it costs around 1 million dollars. In parallel with the numerous trips the president has embarked on it would have been more suitable to keep the jet in favour of cost benifit analysis.
Furthermore the government would have actually done well to keep the jet.
However due to the fact that the nation didn’t understand the point of the jet. They looked at it as an expense rather than an investment. Which is actually funny because most countries have their own presidential jets because it’s much cheaper to own a jet than to charter one out. I’m willing to assume that 5million dollars has been spent on travel alone. From point A to B. Ironically the cost could have been halved if the jet was kept.

  31. It’s pretty naive, in this age, that the President and his guests should be expected to travel by njinga yakapalasa (on bicycles), separately I might add.
Some of the ridiculous criticisms are advanced by professional “haters”, no less. Their objective is to trash APM, regardless. And they have no constructive ideas. Never. Of course their ultimate objective is to see APM and his party defeated in 2019. But bao players know better!

  32. Malawian Leaders at what they know best: not minding about the plight of poor Malawians, but ine ndine Bwana. Ndizimenezi Mmafuna povota a Malawi. You are yet to dance to the music of these senseless and non-accountable leaders. Muchiona lero.

  33. CONFUSED Malawians – Bingu bought a plane and idiots shouted we did not need it. Can you say the same now? Kupusa a Malawi and lack of education and hatred.

  34. This what we get when we chose a buffoon as our President! Look at the man, Mutharika is a pompous leader wasting tax payers money on awarding tenders for supply of pharmaceuticals and fertilizers to Indians, wasting public money on Presidential conveys including the 7 miles per gallon guzzling Hummers, on trips to foreign countries with huge delegations , exonerating his fellow Lonwes from paying Customs Duties and Taxes which will deny Malawians development and progress until 2019.
Yes our traditional donors are watching all this waste of public money and asking themselves why they should provide funding for budget support to Malawi when this buffoon of a leader Mutharika has millions of dollars staked away in secret bank accounts in Jersey , Bank of Taiwan Johannesburg branch etc. and is busy wasting Malawi taxpayers money.
This buffoon endowed by God in His infinite Mercy with ugly looks and a huge appetite for food and whiskey and public money needs to be impeached by MCP at the first opportunity.
Otherwise we Malawians will continue to be the laughing stock of the world – our neighbours are also saying that only ‘buffoons deserve a buffoon as a leader/President’.
The democracy that Malawians fought for has been high jacked by the Mutharika family and the Lomwes. Wake up Malawi, WAKE UP!

  35. These pple are the same, his late brother messed up the country so bad,and he is going to do the same jst wait.

  36. Some comments here are just so useless they make you want to vomit. They make you realise that some people have snort where needs to be brains. Really? APM goes with a shoe shiner to UN who will be paid hundreds of thousands just for that and you supporting it? The NIB boss allocates gvt vehicles to his kids and he gets rewarded for it with a trip to NewYork? And Madam president can’t make her own bed so she takes a maid with her, and we have to pay her hendreds of thousand kwachas for that? What about the hotel staff? Can’t the hotel staff shine shoes and make beds….? Of course they can. Thats just because the Mutharikas like spending money they didn’t work for! And some have the nuts to write rubish here defending such extragance. I wonder why Nyasa times disabled those links where you could comments on specific comments…..

  37. Eya, you have seen for yourselves. I will deploy my boys and girls to hold press conferences then I will hold rallies on the same.

  38. ayi nonsenu u r pointless. nkhani pano siyopanga recall y JB sold the presidential jet. nkhani ndi yot boma likut lilibe ndalama, koma likuspender the huge amount of money pa zinthu za ziiiii. hw do u luk at poverty crisis in the country the amount of money being spent 4 a single trip. Bola Bushiri ali ndiyake

  39. Reading the comments of readers is enough to make one want to cry. We really should be focused on the following:
    1. During his 34 years of rule Kamuzu did not find it necessary or useful for him to attend UN General Assembly every year. What Kamuzu did was to appoint excellent Ambassadors at UN who represented Malawi at the UN General Assembly when Kamuzu could not be there.
    2. For Almost 20 years Bingu, followed by Joyce Banda and now Peter Mutharika our Presidents have attended UN General Assembly, what benefit has this brought to Malawi. Instead donor nations on whom Malawi relies on aid see our Presidents accompanied by 100’s of hangers on, traveling on chartered jets and staying in 5 star hotels. Wasting public money.
    3. If Peter Mutharika wishes to travel to any foreign country including to New York to attend the UN General Assembly on chartered aircrafts as Malawi is dependent on 60% of its budget on foreign donors is it fair on our donors such as UK, Germany etc. whose leaders travel on commercial airlines to fund up to 60% of the cost of chartering an aircraft and staying at luxury hotels?
    4. Why can Mutharika not follow the example of European leaders and the President of Botswana who travel on commercial airlines accompanied by one or two officials to attend UN General Assembly?
    5. Why has Mutharika not explained to Malawians, how his brother sold off the first jet to buy the second one and what happened to the 2nd plane?
    6. Mutharika has now been to New York with huge number of hangers on at least 3 times since he was elected, what benefit has his trips brought to Malawi?
So fellow Malawians lets be a bit more mature. If we wish to develop Malawi let us expect better from our leaders.

  40. stupid writers of these columns and negative commentators, why are you so inadequate in making analysis of issues, In this story I expected the writer to make an informing analysis by looking at this issue with a 360 degree view….I have not seen anywhere in the story where there is mention of cost benefit analysis considering that the JB administration sold the ONLY Presidential Jet that Malawi had and claimed to have consumed the proceeds by purchasing maize. I Tthought the article could help to analyse or justify questions like, what motivated to sell the only jet which Bingu had bought for the country? what is the cost benefit of hiring rather than owning a jet? are presidents expected to travel in private airplanes? it seems the writer is a sympathiser of PP and its clueless leadership that ended up selling the jet that we had, or the writer has limited scope of mind.

  41. Why such big fuss mra is fining and collecting enough money to hire a jet and pay for 100 ppl to travel to New York and enjoy the luxuries. Someone dying of no medication no food does not really matter let them enjoy that’s what we had voted for.

  42. Only fools should rely on 2019 elections to get rid of Peter Mutharika. Because just as the 2014 elections were rigged by DPP led by Brian Bowler, the 2019 elections will be rigged. And mind you Mutharika has already said that he will stand again in 2019. The only way to get rid of Mutharika unless you want Mutharikas to rule you for the rest of your lives is IMPEACHMENT by MCP.

  43. Those kings who wined and dined at the expense of the poor in biblical times faced the wrath of the creator. They can now only be remember in the domain of history and biblical recollection. They are no longer enjoying royal privileges. Right now ambulances can`t operate because they have no fuel. You have raised school fees in a country where the majority live below the poverty line and can hardly afford such a raise. You and your cabinet were educated on government scholarships and yet you are denying the wananchi of the same.

Yet you can afford to take a shoe shiner, chef, make up specialist and so many dysfunctional officers to New York!!!!!!!! Mark my words, some day soon you will pay for the innocent tears that you are causing people to shed in the poorest country in the world

  44. President Muntharika was the one who was critising JB that she was too much moving out and spending taxpayers money. Now he is the one who is moving out now and again expending taxpayers money. shame to DDP Govt. Mavota vota a Malawi.

  45. Muonana 2019 itinso? Ndege munagulitsa ndi chapaphewa, lero mukulira. Kalirani, iye akunjoya inu mukhalila kugona mma plot nkumanyera panja koma kumudziko akuti muli mtauni.

Choncho aleke kumpangila nsanje Major 1? simunati munyadi @ 51, still using the roads which kamuzu constructed. shame.

  46. Malawian Commentators!!!!! U Are Good For Nothing! Where Were U When Joyce Sold Our Presidential Jet? You Were Saying Malawi Can’t Afford to manage A Jet. A Blue lie Too That Pple Walk Naked!! Are U talking of 2015??!! Ndani Akuyenda Opanda Zovala?? AMalawi Tisamachite Zinthu Zotumidwa! Anthu Openga Mwapanga Bwanji??????Kkkkkkkkkkk. Nanunso A Nyasatimes Tazilembani Nkhani Zobweretsa Umodzi Pakati Pa AMalawi Chonde Ndapota Nanu!!

  47. this President is plunk, imagine, no medicine in hospitals, expectant mothers and patients eating once/24 hrs, hunger roaming, punitive taxes, but all in all he spent billions on winky-waks things. i don’t know who may help us to get rid of this bullock President, we are in critical need of such pivotal help

  48. what is happening in our country & president including my DPP party? Tiziona m’mene zithere but its too much.

  49. so let me get this straight, we sold the presidential jet because according to us as malawians, it was too expensive to keep at the expense of the poor. Now we need the president to go and attend meetings with other heads of state and you are saying that why didnt he use a normal lane. As far as i know malawian airlines has few planes and when we start talking about using ordinary planes, what exactly do we mean??? Coz if we mean our domestic aircrafts we will now get into all sorts of discussions about the opportunity cost of what the plane would have made in revenue had it not been used by the president.

Now the aircraft in question is a private plane, outsourced for 12,800 USD……An aircraft, not a minibus. Yes questions must be asked but lets ask the right questions and remember our own ‘swinging’ support for certain past decisions before and after witnessing the results of such decisions.

  50. He will die soon, but I don’t know how many times God will keep on bailing us out of evil leaders if we can’t make right choices during elections. The day God will look away from Malawi we will experience suffering like no other because we keep letting ourselves down.
Smite this one o Lord, for we have had enough of him.

  51. Public reform for ordinary civil servants while the president himself needs to be reformed. As I write now we civil servants have not yet been paid our September salary. A Malawi kusankha president musamasankhe chifukwa ndi wa kwanu. Tiyeni tizisankha munthu amene ali ndi cholinga chothandiza Malawi kusintha. This mchona of the president will never help Malawi.

  52. This is simply unbelievable and beyond any comprehension.
How..repeat how can a country’s leader who always talks about welfare of the masses ..how can he spend / waste such a big amount on undertaking a trip. The people must take him to task by staging demonstrations….not in a violent manner but in a disciplined and quite way and ask for apology and promise from the president that he will dare not repeat such act again.

  53. No 3, who told you that Malawi is a christian nation? In these circumstances, Malawi needs to rise up. Impeachment is the right thing to do now ! Dzuka Malawi dzuka !

  54. ITS A WASTE OF TIME TO SHOW OFF WITH BORROWED MONEY FROM CHINA TO PAY IT BACK ITS VERY HAD EH! NGONGOLE IMAKOMA POTENGA KOMA KUBWEZERA KUWAWA

  55. Malawians are suffering from Mutharika’s excesses because the opposition parties led by MCP are failing to hold this government accountable in parliament. The answer and solution to Mutharika steal inking billions and wasting billions is IMPEACHMENT which only MCP hand spearhead. Otherwise Malawians should blame MCP and not Mutharika.

  56. m’mafuna ayende panjika ulendo wa ku america??would you please explain what mr president & his team mate are doing in the UN in USA.?¿??

  57. AMalawi Kuzolowera Umphawi Ndege Anagulitsa Mayi Wanu Wokwera Matola Uja Pano Mzanu Wapanga Hire Mukudandaula Mumafuna Atenge Tija Timauluka Ku Mkopola Lodge? Ngati Chakwera Akuyenda Pa Hammer Akadzakhala President Adzachitanso Zomwezi.

  58. Now this is the guy you need to be exposing for stealing not Bushiri this stupid Peter Muntharika is not fit to be a president and our voices need to get louder . He needs to go before it is too late. Impeach Peter #

  59. Until now… I can’t believe how behind Malawi as a country is. The whole country can’t afford a presidential jet? Really people? The Rwandan president was shot in a presidential jet in 1994 for God’s sake. I guess that time Malawi was still sleeping?? Don’t you people have people with head on their shoulders? What’s wrong with you people as a country. Aren’t you ashamed of yourselves for failing to work together to put your country on a map for good reason? Here in Canada when you mention Malawi, people recognise it for child adoption of Madonna. Come on…. I always follow news and it is always castigating each other. Until when that you are going to feel good for yourselves? If it is not robberies that leave people dead, it Will be politician character killing. Wake up…. This is 2015!!!

  60. Thid mediocrity at its best bwana pitara so called malawi president. People weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth coz of abject poverty. They have no food to eat, no shelter, no clothes to wear. Civil are hardly paid on time and in fact many are not paid by now. Service delivery is in shambles almost everywhere. You talk of hospitals, public schools, universities, water boards, ADMARC, etc etc and you have that obscene appetite to spend on yourself and few colonies! SHAME. THATS BEING INSENSITIVE TO THE HARDCORE SUFFERINGS OF THE PEOPLE YOU CALL YOUR SUBJECTS. GOD WILL NOT LET HIS CHILDREN CRY FOREVER. FREEDOM IS COMING NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES.

Now Joyce Banda Administration was also very wrong to sell a national asset in the name of JET. It also smacks on symptms of failed leadership specializing in hardcore corruption. You cant sale jet and buy chimanga look what is happening. Malawi sadzatheka.

Need system overhaul. Impeach Peter now than later. Anyapapi

  61. NYASATIMES this is what Malawians want to make this government end corruption and rethink their style of leadership which does not care about the poor. Keep it up. You are our voice . The Catholic church, PAC and civil society are silent and dead

  62. Musiyen azisangalala munamusankha nokha.Aziwononga ndi nthawi yake nanga akadyera kuti moti wakula kale.

  63. We all know that The President will denie every thing so let’s just pretend we don’t know. But a poor Malawian musician called Allan Namoko said in his song (Zonse ndi Moyo) and make it clear that Chauta akadalola tizawonana

  64. Atithera chuma mkuluyu…….zimatiwawatu zimenezi! Why enjoying at the expense of the poor Malawians? Kodi umunthu wanu mumauika kuti?

  65. Very sad development, since we are a Christian nation, tingogwada pansi, pray to God that one day He should give us a leader full of wisdom, Love and kindness. A leader who is gonna give and not steal from the poor. Pleading with the heavens!!!
