Malawi leader  Chakwera meets pop star Madonna, praises her charity

Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera on New Year’s Day met with visiting U.S. pop singer Madonna, praising her efforts to help children’s education  in the South African country.

President received the pop icon at the Kamuzu Presidential Palace in the capital, Lilongwe, on Friday.

Chakwera received the pop icon at the Kamuzu Presidential Palace in the capital, Lilongwe, where Madonna  briefed him about her charity work in the country.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Chakwera said “Madonna came by to say hello today. It was good to hear the progress of her charity work in Malawi.”

Madonna is the founder of Raising Malawi, a charitable organisation supporting community-based organizations that provide orphans, vulnerable children and their caregivers with the critical resources they need, including education, medical care, food and shelter, and psychosocial support.

Besides that, Madonna, built a state-of-the-art paediatric surgery  and intensive care unit at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, a referral hospital in the city of Blantyre.

In July 2017, the facility, named Mercy James Centre of Paediatric Surgery and Intensive Care (MJC) and first of its kind, formally opened.

With three operating theaters, the facility provides life-changing and quality care free of charge to thousands of Malawian children.

Madonna is in Malawi on holiday to visit children branding the adventure a “homecoming.”

The 62-year-old pop queen is accompanied by her four  adopted Malawian children, David Banda, 15, Mercy James, 14 and eight-year-old twin girls Stella and Estere.

  1. Whenever there’s change of government, Madonna is here to meet the new president. Will be back again am sure when Chilima takes over.

  2. Kuteloko akadalipobe muMalawi omwe sadziwa za Madonna kuti ndi mama monster?
    Achulukilenji okonda zowelengawelenga,umbuli osawachoka

  3. Much as we appreciate all the good work this old white lady is doing, we also have to question the real interest of this woman in this country, Madonna’s moral character is a questionable one, kalipokalipo ndithu, it is ether we are sacrificing something big or she is just a godly angel sent to help Malawi, ndangodutsamo…..

    1. Madonna doesn’t need Malawi but we need her to help boost Malawi’s tourism. Surely for all the things she has done like making 4 of our poorest souls into millionaires and constructing a hospital in Blantyre she deserves an automatic citizenship. Mukupatsa usitizen amwenye ndi maburundi kusiya Madonna. I can bet grant her citizenship she will do something much greater than she has done so far.

      1. Malawi does not allow dual citizenship. You will have to ask Madonna to revoke her British and American citizenships. Good luck doing that

      2. Nonsensical Whiteman bootlicker. We need God my friend not a pinky. We are more than great to take care of ourselves. Stop being beggars, get up and do something for yourself!

    2. Dumb mother-raper! And what morals do u have u piece of crap! How many children have adopted? U most probably molested them!! F××kface!! Thats the problem with poor people! Kicking the hand that helps them! Fo and adopt all the orphan children and shut yiur stinking mouth!!

    3. I have no doubt that her intentions are noble. The derogatory expression used in your reply is quite sickening . Google up and learn more about this lady’s work , not only in Malawi.

    4. you yourself are now of questionable character-JEALOUSY ; you wished it was your children who were adopted

    5. You say truth. Worry not about those who having eyes but can not see, having ears but can not comprehend. They do not know that whitey can not come to our shores without any gain. They take 100 from us and give back 5, lots of people do not know. Shame! And we wonder why we are so poor and always begging whitey, bootlicking Malawians!!!

  4. Hmm. Nice photo of the Material Girl and the Church Mouse. And she’s done great things for Malawi, despite many obstacles: One of the biological parents of the adopted kids suddenly decided he wanted a piece of the pie, despite abandoning his kid at an orphanage due to grinding poverty. “My kid is doing nothing for me”, the idiot proclaimed. Even by Malawian culture, we don’t expect little kids to provide us with our daily bread, do we? I suspect some lawyer must have I’ll-advised him! Then there was JB. A whole state president decided to pick a fight with a mere pop star — all because the pop star had kicked her thieving sister out of her foundation. Methinks JB’s thievery runs in the family! Big sigh.

  5. That’s great news to hear. Keep it up Mr president. We really need such celebrities in Malawi who can share their resources with the less privileged society. God bless you Madonna and keep on the good works.
