Malawi man blames Satan for his sexual assault on daughter, 15
A 57-year-old man is under police custody at Balaka police station in eastern Malawi for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old step daughter.
Balaka police spokesperson sub-inspector Joseph Sauka says the victim told the police that the suspect, Mark Chafachaona, had been defiling her on several occasions reaching the extent of impregnating her.
“She said after noting that she was pregnant, she informed her father who told her to abort the pregnancy, which she did,” says Sauka.
Sauka says after some time the father started sleeping with her again a development that made her to report the matter to a child protection worker following a sensitization meeting by a non-governmental organization Chinansi Foundation which is championing for children’s right in the district.
“Meanwhile the suspect who has pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement has blamed the devil [for forcing him] into the misconduct,” says Sauka.
Sauka says Chafachaona is still in police custody waiting to appear before court to answer a case of defilement which is contrary to section 138(1) of the penal code.
Chafachaona has eight biological children and he comes from Magombo village, Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka district.

This journalist needs to learn the ethics of the trade. Through the name of the criminal the victim can be identified, which is unethical in rape and defilement cases. And there is not logic here: in the photo the criminal is made unrecognisable, but in the text his full name is stated.
