Malawi man stones step father to death

A 19 year old boy has been arrested on suspicion that he stoned his step father to death, after quarreling over family matters.

The boy identified as Numeri Yona is alleged to have committed the crime at Silapa Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Khombedza in Salima, on 23 November, 2012.

Police identified the deceased as Stanley Chilombo, 39 years old.

Salima Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Gift Chitowe, said that the victim meet his fate when he was fighting with his wife.

“According to an eye witness the victim had some disagreements with his wife before the squabble turned into a physical fight at this point is when the suspect joined the fight to the side of the mother, but when he discovered that he was losing the fight he turned to stones as weapons,” said Chitowe

Chitowe said that the suspect threw the stones on the victim without mercy severely injuring him in his head.

“The victim lost a lot of blood at the spot before he was taken to hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Salima District Hospital and postmortem revealed that he died due to loss of blood through the injuries caused by his stoning,” said Chitowe.

The two (suspect and deceased) come from Chisomba Village TA Khombedza.

Chitowe said that Yona is currently on remand and will appear before the court soon to answer murder charges.

In a related development Police in Salima on Monday arrested six people on suspicion that they were involved in an attempted mob justice against three murder suspects.

The six are Madson Jefitala 30, Frank Shadreck 42, Yohane Genesis, Benson Kachingwe 30, Levison Mark 19, and Tsogolani Biziliele 20.

All the suspects are from Mpanje Village, TA Khombedza in the same district.

According to Sergeant Gift Chitowe the six invaded set ablaze four houses and a car Nissan Hard Body, Registration Number ZA 7723 belonging to Chipiliro Chitenje, 23, Jonathan Nkhoma, 32, and Masautso Kachingwe who were arrested earlier on suspicion that they murdered Shadreck Bofana on Monday last week.

Bofana was from the same village as all the suspects.

According to Chitowe after the Police effected the arrest of the three murder suspects’ villagers led by the six suspects went on rampage destroying property belonging to the three.

“Meanwhile we will charge the four with arson while the later will be answering murder charges,” said Chitowe.
