Malawi MP reports minister to Speaker over alleged threats: Chiumia claims MCP’s Dimba wanted sexual advances
Tempers flared in the House as Lilongwe south MP Peter Dimba told the House that Home Affairs minister Grace Chiumia threatened to deal with him.
Dimba also said he has received verbal abuses and attacks from MP Cecelia Chadzama and Civic Education minister Patricia Kaliati.
The opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) MPsaid he has received the threats and verbal attacks following his intention to table the elections reforms bill.
Chiumia denied issuing the threats, saying she was out of parliament on Wednesday.
She said if Dimba wanted sexual advances on her then she could not allow it since she is married.
Chazama also suggested Dimba was advancing sexual advances, saying although she was a widow, she could not allow to be harassed.
Kaliati said she made a general comment that some legislators were putting on over size jackets, saying her remark did not target Dimba. Speaker Richard Msowoya asked Dimba to put in writing the threats he received from Chiumia.
He said his office would deal with the matter with urgency and seriousness it deserves as legislators were free men.

Osangomukana bwanji? Is it not permissible for MPs to ask each other out? We understand that these were sexual advances, not sexual harrassment. What was worse for Malawians was when you pronounced Mutharika “life president” not this nonsense. Grow up!
